Uta Frith: why I no longer think autism is a spectrum The autism spectrum has widened to the point of collapse, affecting how teachers should support autistic pupils in the classroom, researcher Uta Frith tells Helen Amass

"I’ve been quite swept up by the autism spectrum idea, and it’s only in the past 10 years or so that I have felt things have gone too far, and very slowly I have come to say, 'No, this is not right'"

‘Caring about people’, apart from women, gays, children and those who value free speech you mean?

‘Women will no longer be able to benefit from single sex spaces.’ What a vote winner

That they’re a boy. Pretty rational

Have you ever tried listening to a woman? Or not assuming that a lack of objection doesn’t necessarily signify assent?

4 months ago 1 0 1 0

That’s alright then. A bunch of men agreeing that women shouldn’t be alarmed if they choose to invade the ladies. I’m sure women will be mighty relieved

Common sense? Your blokes arguing that there’s no problem with men in women’s loos. That’s common sense?

4 months ago 1 0 1 0

Urinals? They’re all about whipping your bits out. Thing is, men are rarely discomfited by women in their loos. Men in the ladies - it’s another story. Up skirting, let alone other unwanted sexual advances, isn’t that rare

Men commit 95% of all crime. They commit 98% of sex crimes. If it’s sexist to point that out, so be it

Obvs you’ve never listened to a woman. Because I don’t one who prefers the gents to the ladies

4 months ago 1 0 1 0

Your girl friends, in that situation, I suspect won’t upset many men. But for women it’s different. We as a group are a menace. So next time you’re bursting and the gents is closed, take a leak outside

No, nobody with a dick should feel they have a right to encroach on a space designated for women. It’s not a difficult concept. Good men stay out because the bad ones stand out, as the saying goes

4 months ago 1 0 1 0

So we should give perpetrators additional opportunities? And it’s not just a question of assault - women, for obvs reasons, don’t want to share female-only spaces with biological males. It’s a question of dignity and privacy as much as anything else

4 months ago 1 0 1 0

Yes, much like men - including those who identify as women - are rightly kept out of spaces and sports designated for women! So we’re in agreement?

4 months ago 0 0 0 0

What? It’s protecting the disabled from intrusion by the abled. In the same way single sex spaces protect women - and girl guides - from trespassing by men

How many Tory targets/seats are likely Lib Dem/Labour and how many Reform? If more the former, why would they?

You are allowed to discriminate in favour of a protected characteristic - eg keeping abled runners from competing in para athletics

4 months ago 1 0 1 0

Would ‘not acting your age’ lead you to compete in junior football or looking slightly disabled tempt you to claim disability benefit? I suspect not. There are good safeguarding reasons why we discriminate on the basis of age, incapacity and sex

4 months ago 1 0 2 0

Up to a point. Identity isn’t just a matter of personal preference; it has social implications too. There are good reasons why 60 year olds cannot socially identify as 16, the abled ID as disabled… or boy scouts as girl guides

I’d love to know the difference between a ‘trans kid’ and a gender non-conforming kid, but as no one can provide an answer I guess it’s unfair to expect one from you

4 months ago 1 0 1 0

‘won’t the trans girls just move to Scouts?’ 😂😂😂. And they should and nobody will care because, guess what, they’re boys

4 months ago 1 0 1 0

‘A little girl wants to be a girlguide but he can’t because he’s a boy..’ Yeah. Criminal. Not.

4 months ago 1 0 0 0

How is that difficult to understand? If one TIM is given privileged access to a women-only space, any man could claim discrimination if denied the same right

I know this is the most excitement many of you McCarthyites have had in ages, but surely much of your performative outrage is less to do with an understanding of gay rights & history, feeble though it is, and more to do with the awareness that John’s writing is incomparably better than his critics’?

But isn’t that in lieu of capital gains or inheritance taxes?

Oh piss off you tiresome idiot. Build, face, gait, height ensure people almost always correctly sex people. Not that it matters, because everyone knows their sex and the onus is on THEM to comply with the law

Correctly sexing people is an evolutionary skill that works 99% of the time - there are a ton of studies proving it. But as I said earlier, it’s on trans people to comply with the law, even for the tiny number (almost all TM, hardly any TW) who ‘pass’

10 months ago 1 0 1 0

GNC women are women. The only people who rely on gender stereotypes are TRAs - who are happy to tell butch girls they may be ‘trans’. It’s hideously regressive, homophobic and misogynistic. But as the ideology is driven by straight men and the women who pander to them, that’s hardly surprising

10 months ago 2 0 1 0

I don’t care how they identify. It doesn’t give them carte blanche to undermine the rights of others. They know their sex and, and now thanks to the SC, they now know the law
