Just an fyi, US voter turnout has been over 50% for decades, averaging closer to 55% and rising into the low 60s. In 2020 a record 65% turned out to send trump packing. Hopefully 2026 and 2028 will be big.
It might be even more beneficial to research the real benefits congressmen actually receive. They pay for coverage like all federal employees, and do not retain lifetime benefits until eligible for retirement (lifetime service). They do get federal retirement if they qualify, which is reasonable.
