"Chaos" - exactly what you want for a holiday, eh? Just another reason to phase flying out of our lives. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...
It takes 500 barrels of oil to fly to LA, and roughly 0 to take the train to Europe.
Changing your travel habits is about more than avoiding climate collapse; it's about the petro-states not holding you over a barrel.

Flights between Newquay & London have been axed due to fuel shortages. The real story is that flights between Newquay & London even EXIST.

Very interesting report this - at 2 degrees of climate warming we’ll be paying the equivalent of an oil war every year - Reform and the Tories need to pay attention - avoiding the worst effects of the climate crisis is in our vital national interest.

2,403 people have already taken the flight free challenge.
Not because flying is evil.
Because when you look at the evidence, staying grounded is the most effective climate action most of us can take.

Flying is one of the highest-carbon ways to travel.
Train, coach and ferry journeys produce far fewer emissions per passenger.
Small choices add up when many people make them.

What if holidays started with a bike ride to the station?
This family travelled from Bath to Brittany with two cargo bikes and two kids.

One flight can wipe out the carbon savings from many everyday changes.
For people who fly, it’s often the biggest part of their carbon footprint.
Choosing trains, ferries or coaches can make a huge difference.

When energy is tight, using fossil fuels to heat homes makes far more sense than burning them for leisure flights.
Contrail management could help in the short term. But the most effective step for the climate is still reducing flights and the emissions that come with them.
Climate breakdown is coming fast. Cutting aviation emissions is one of the highest-impact personal moves you can make. Flight Free UK makes it easy & effective. Every pound fuels more inspiration & advocacy. flightfree.co.uk
Flights are the biggest slice of many people's carbon footprint often bigger than diet, home energy, car combined. Switch modes, make a massive dent. Flight Free UK inspires that shift. Donate to grow the movement
There is no such thing as a truly sustainable aviation fuel right now.A new report found that every single material proposed for "green" jet fuel has a better environmental use elsewhere.Flying less is still the only honest answer. 🌍 www.aef.org.uk/uploads/2025...
Liverpool → Assisi by train.
A pilgrimage across Europe with Alpine views, helpful strangers and far lower emissions than flying.
We share stories like this to inspire change. flightfree.co.uk/travel_artic...

The science is clear. The challenge now is reducing the biggest sources of emissions, including aviation, which still runs almost entirely on fossil fuels.
E-fuels sound perfect on paper (made from water + air + renewables).
But making them takes 3–4× ALL current global renewable electricity.
We should power homes & trains first.
Aviation last.

We’re sharing Tim’s remarkable journey from Bedford to Tbilisi to honour his love of flight-free travel.
Shortly after completing this trip, Tim died by suicide. He always shared his travels, and it felt right to share this story in his memory.

Scientists say we need deep cuts NOW.
Industry says ‘electric planes in 2035’.
We can’t wait 10 years while emissions rise.
A flight-free year is the bridge. Simple.

Exactly the kind of connection Europe needs more of. Fast, affordable rail makes flight-free travel a realistic option for many journeys.
Recycling can cut emissions significantly. But we also need to look at high-emitting sectors like aviation, where the biggest reduction often comes simply from flying less.

Bath to Brittany… with two cargo bikes and two kids 🚲
Cycling campaigner Saskia Heijltjes shares how her family travelled from Bath to Brittany by train and ferry, and spent 10 days exploring the coast by bike. A brilliant example of family flight-free travel. flightfree.co.uk/travel_artic...
Industry promised 25% SAF by 2020.
Actual use today: <0.01%.
Projected max for EU in 2030: 5.5%.
Every target missed, every ambition quietly lowered.
This isn’t a solution. It’s a decade of delay.
