Mostly screaming into the void, but the aggressive defunding of education (K-12 & higher ed), the billions being funneled into law enforcement, and trying to pressure yng ppl into the military (as one of few “public” supported options for many) serves the goals of our fascist regime.
Because I’m seeing too much talk about flat talk about “resistance” and otherwise in relation to this Met Gala

New book finally arrived! 🖤🎶 @drmadmo.bsky.social
We have lost the plot. But tired of seeing so much veneration of American Nationalism via Blackness through capitalist exploitation and folks calling it a liberating or revolutionary practice. Just let it be what it is.
Happy New Year!

I hope that brings some comfort, but at the same time, white people make a ton of money from this...I guess I'll call it mimicry/mockery.
Blacksound by @drmadmo.bsky.social is a great book that goes in depth about how this happened in American music blacksoundbook.com
This term, my (White) students & I are reading (and discussing) the awesome book #Blacksound by Matthew D. Morrison / @drmadmo.bsky.social.
At the end of today's class, one of the students said: ‘I've just realised how many racist attitudes I still hold in mind.' Not the worst outcome, I'd say ...
Thank you! 🙏🏿
thanks very much for engaging my book with your students! 🙏🏿
Thank you so much! 🙏🏿
Omg I’ve missed your posts
Hi @drmadmo.bsky.social , if you’re tracking non-ac citations, Andrew Hickey of “A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs” cites “Blacksound” this week around the 18-min mark. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/a...
Thanks so much for letting me know!
Several people have mentioned to me in the past that they've been enlightened by my discussions of racialised laws around what is and isn't copyrightable. The book Blacksound by Matthew D. Morrison is one I'd recommend for more on that
Thanks for citing my work — people sometimes base their episodes around it without doing so. I appreciate it!
Heeeey!
I’m just spectating on here for now. But hey, y’all!

The book by NYU music scholar & musician Matthew D. Morrison, PhD @drmadmo.bsky.social
"Blacksound" describes the part working class Irish and Scottish immigrants played in emergence of blackface minstrelsy.
Highly recommend
