On this week's @bust_magazine blog: Indiana docs don’t have to report abortions to a government fantasizing about arresting them, and a “pro-life” org threatened lawmakers to vote NO on LIFE-SAVING care. Plus! The FDA Commissioner is punting his “review” of mifepristone until after the midterms.

This immediately made me think of the 1995 movie, The Big Green. 🥹

How many times can one person say, oof in the first ten minutes of a podcast? Asking for me because I feel like @smashfizzle.bsky.social is in my brain.

“I was with you, until you said ‘pregnant people.’”

I get this a lot. I’m an abortion provider, and the CEO and President of an org known for abortion advocacy. Let’s talk about why I use inclusive language — and why I’m not stopping. 🧵

Abortion is health care, but it can also be an act of hope or a prayer or a wish or a Hail Mary for the lives patients want to protect or build or keep imagining. Some people don’t want to be pregnant, they have an abortion, they go on to lead the lives they imagined. Abortion is worth celebrating.

Not asking you directly but hoping someone smarter than me has an idea. I see so many local electeds have their hands tied by the State, it's frustrating to say the least.

Listening to @tressiemcphd.bsky.social on the Opinions podcast and my question as a North Carolinian is how do we bridge the gap between the representation we clearly want in a municipal election and what is allowed by the more conservative state laws an policy?

Nick Clegg argues lack of fairness because it’s impossible for him to win the game if he has to follow the rules.

I’m sure all the standup comedians who have been ranting about censorship the last few years are going to take to the streets any minute now.

It’s interesting to see a writer list “the worst things” a man has done, and it’s truly a list of horrors, and then blithely say that still, we must get along. You can only do that when you aren’t in anyone’s political crosshairs. Must be nice.

The MSNBC commentator saying that most political violence has historically come from the left just once again showed how we suffer from failing to learn history. Lynching, pogroms, race riots, the political violence that ended Reconstruction, and against the Civil Rights Movement. Come on.

US home prices have greatly outpaced incomes: in 2024, the price-to-income ratio hit 5, well above the ratio of 3 that has traditionally been considered affordable. As prices rose, existing home sales dropped to a 30-year low.

The new GOP tax bill gives the richest Americans (making over $4.3 million) an average tax cut of over $389k—while working families earning $17k-$51k will lose $700 a year on average. It’s a slap in the face to hardworking families who need tax relief the most.

“Griffen concedes” as if he had a %#!? choice. Will never ever forget these assholes. He shouldn’t be able to eat a fried shrimp in this state ever again. No one should help his wife find the right size at any store. May his grandkids grandkids only ever have middle school.

White background, black text. Title reads autocrats don’t create anything! Below this are drawings of folks working. From left to right, the first row reads they don’t repair roads we do that; the don’t harvest crops we do that; they don’t collect taxes we do that. The second row from left to right reads they don’t clean wounds we do that; they don’t deliver packages we do that; they don’t manage ports we do that. The third row from left to right reads they don’t build community we do that; they don’t raise children we do that; they don’t drive buses we do that. At the bottom in large text reads we create everything.

Happy #MayDay everyone. Today (and every day!) we recognize the struggle for workers’ rights that shaped our country’s history. Be sure to find your closest May Day event and show out!
