I've been rewatching ever episode of The Amazing World of Gumball (possibly for the 4th or 5th time). As good as some of the episodes are that follow it (and that it does tie to the last episode), S6E34 The Future should have been the last episode. That ending is so good.

I'm sure my students (i teach adults guitar) think I'm crazy, but sometimes i nearly jump out of my seat when they nail something that was challenging for them. I get so freaking happy and excited for them! My last lesson ended an hour ago and I'm *still* pumped. #guitarteacher #guitarlessons

The players had fun but I think the game was dwarfed by the spread I put out. Did my best to imitate the way my mom entertains - plenty of variety, way too much food, and make sure it goes home with people. #justlikemama 2/2

BFRPG (with a healthy dose of plain B/X) episodic campaign kicked off today with the Halfling Home from The Chaotic Caves. It was a good appetizer. Also, a good reminder of how stirges can be brutal for 1st level PCs 1/2 #osr #bfrpg

Three Reaper Bones goblins painted as Smurfs.

Three Reaper Bones goblins painted as Smurfs.

Goblurfs? Smurflins? Sometimes I crack myself up.

Might use them for Sword Weirdos. Might use them for Basic Fantasy RPG.

According to no less a source than a random email I received - today is International Mouthpiece Day. So, to all who celebrate I hope you have a good one.

My 90-day supply of Sertraline went down from $12 to $6. Unexpected. Welcome, but unexpected.

Coworkers were talking about the Village People this morning - queue vivid flashback to trading Village People trading cards with friends in Kindergarten (along with KISS cards).

If i start looking now, in about three hours, when i'm ready to watch a movie, I'll have one picked out.

Spent part of my day talking to my best friend about their D&D game, spent another part talking to a coworker about D&D game. Now I'm going into the weekend and ... not gaming until next weekend ๐Ÿ˜ญ

The hard part for me of breaking away from Prime (Fuck Amazon!) is relearning how to wait. As a kid, 4-6 weeks for delivery was common, but at some point 3 days become an inconceivable annoyance even for non-essentials. I have to remind myself that I don't NEED my new distortion pedal that badly.

They would indeed, but then I'd need a coffee table ๐Ÿ˜

I will definitely be grabbing the free PDFs - while I got rid of all the stuff i backed back then, I kept all the PDFs and every now and then find myself returning to one or another for ideas.

I'm tempted by OSRIC 3.0, but it's been 10 years or so (what? how is that possible?) since I went in on OSR crowdfunding stuff - and I've kept none of it. So, I'm doing my best to remind myself of that and not jump on it. Still . . .

They were given rumors/background about locations as well as meta info about the adventure (level, length, sandboxy vs plot-based, etc). And they negotiated with each other about where to go as well which of their PCs to bring (all have 3). I'll call it a success.

I'm not an artist by any stretch, but I made a "graphical user interface" (looks like a map, but no scale or even relative distance) for players to choose which adventure they want to go on (episodic campaign and trying to replicate the player agency of a sandbox hex crawl). #osr #bfrpg (1/2) :

I started with Moldvay Basic so have always used the reaction table for deception, as in the combat example and the famous "It's okay: Gary sent us." CHR modifier accounts for the character's ability, and the DM can award a bonus or penalty as they see fit for player 's. Perfect? No, but it works.

Basic Fantasy Role-Playing Game

Session 0 confirmed my preference for the 4 core classes and races. It took over 2 hours for people to decide between all of the options available. (I'm running Basic Fantasy RPG www.basicfantasy.org with just about all of the race and class options, to satisfy the 5e desires of my players).

Friday afternoons I play the will-they-or-won't-they game: I have a student who schedules a lesson almost every Friday evening and about half of the time, they need to reschedule last minute for Sunday. In my studio, that's fine (I teach adults, life happens). I just find it amusing. #guitarteacher

Trying to help some (well 1) of my players understand that B/X / BFRPG is not about heroes being heroic but about nobodies trying to become somebodies with this guideline: "If your backstory is longer than a sentence or two, you're too attached to your character."
(typo in previous post of this)

Oh and it's my first #BandCampFriday with this project. It's PWYW so, you don't have to pay a damn cent if you don't want to.

(btw, the EP name is tongue-in-cheek. Idk why I feel the need to explain that)

๐Ÿ˜‚ In the first 5e campaign our other GM ran, I played a gnome monk (Brother Gthelonious Gmonk) and it was JUST like that. I mean it was fun, but also kind of silly.

Out today (for your May Day enjoyment) Red Slaad - Songs of Liberty EP : redslaad.bandcamp.com

4 songs, ~5 minutes.

Described by one listener as "total brutality with nightmarish vocals." Pretty sure that's a good thing.

Keeping combat moving in a large group helps keep everyone engaged - or at least that's how it seems to me - otherwise people start checking out as either they've gone already or they're still waiting for their turn.

Mostly, I don't have to skip anyone but instead I have to make sure the quiet person gets heard by the group or gets their chance at the spotlight. In a big group (like 8+ players) we go around the table and then i'll skip to the next person if they need more time.

In small groups, I usually let the players handle the order they go in and it can change every round - b/x can do init order for the PCs but i've never played it that way. Always side vs side and any order.

And I caved. BFRPG (which is basically B/X) has an abundance of race and class options. We can just build things that are close enough from those without me having to do a lot of extra work. Plus maybe i can convince the players to actually buy the core book if they want their own copy.
