Hi all. I am very excited that after 6 years I finally got my phylogenetic comparative methods book and online exercises online. Feel free to use and share. The book is here: nhcooper123.github.io/pcm-primer/. Note that it is not finished, we had to abandon it before the sunk costs fallacy broke us

This marks the first of a series of upcoming projects exploring carnivoran neuroecology and the resulting diversity in brain structure & function - A pinniped (marine carnivorans) sulcal anatomy edition is coming up next ππ¦π
Excited to share that my first study on carnivoran brains is out! π§ We provide a unified framework for identifying neocortical sulci across 26 diverse carnivoran species, and discuss how regional variations in sulcal patterns may relate to their behaviour & ecology. elifesciences.org/articles/100...
#newpreprint: "Climate Shaped the Global Population Structure of Leopards and their Extinction in Europe": www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...! Leopards are charming big cats but there are many mysteries around them. Thread π§΅
PhD Alert! π Our lab is hiring a PhD student to study how shrews shrink in winter and grow in spring. Yes, you read that right!

Brain Surfaces of 70 primate species

To predict the behaviour of a primate, would you rather base your guess on a closely related species or one with a similar brain shape? We looked at brains & behaviours of 70 species, youβll be surprised!

I'm very excited and happy to share that the canid cognition team in NeuchΓ’tel is growing fast! We'll be hiring soon, so keep your eyes and ears open πΊπΆ
such a game changer for comparative neuroimaging! i am very proud to have played a small part in this π§
Always thought we should use connectivity blueprints to investigate differences between human, chimpanzee, and macaque brains? www.jneurosci.org/content/earl... For Katherine Bryantβs latest masterpiece.
Almost the entire editorial board of the Journal of Human Evolution have resigned in protest of changes made by the publisher Elsevier. These changes degrade the quality of articles through the use of AI and also double the publishing fee over what similar journals charge. π§ͺππΏ
great starter pack! would you mind adding me? :)
π§ Come work with us! In addition to our postdoc position on modelling, our lab at @institutpasteur.bsky.social we also seek a postdoc to help us create the most complete open atlas of brain folding development! This is part of our ERC Synergy project Unfold (unfold-lab.github.io). Join us! (1/10)
thank you β₯οΈ
π¨ Weβre hiring! π¨ We're looking for a postdoc for our ERC Synergy project Unfold (unfold-lab.github.io). Join our lab at @institutpasteur to model brain morphogenesis! (1/10)
Time is running out, but with more people added to Bluesky, please contact me if you are interested in applying for a MSc or PhD with us on sensory systems of living and extinct birds. CT scanning and access to the world's biggest bird brain collection!

We are happy to announce the second Workshop of Ideas in 2024! On April 19-21th in Warsaw, we will discuss the origins of order in behaviour. Is instinct a useful term in modern neuroscience?
How do genes influence and constrain behavioural development?

Hello #CogSci,
We just announced our 2023 Seed Grant Call which provides funds for applicants to develop, write, and submit an interdisciplinary research proposal in the broad field of cognitive science that will help them move their career forward.
Feel free to share with interested colleagues!
Symposium proposals for the Japan Society for Social Neuroscience meeting are due tomorrow - poster deadline is January 15
I am SO excited about going to Japan, hope to see lots of you there π§
