personally i’d rather extend those benefits to all citizens

human rights may be inalienable, but they are more often taken than given

those who aren’t prepared to fight for their rights should at least be prepared to lose them…

seriously, let that sink in for a minute…

something like this should be incomprehensible to people accustomed to life in a constitutional democratic republic with checks, balances, and allegedly guaranteed human rights

but it’s happening here

any u.s. citizen who feels comfortable with the way things are going isn’t thinking enough about how much our human rights protections have eroded recently

ice abducts people off american streets, without due process, and disappears them to a prison or foreign country, probably often to die.

as an aside, i also think one of the best possible ways to stimulate the economy under these circumstances would actually be for the gov’t to subsidize a chatgpt subscription for anyone who wants access to ai but can’t currently afford it

personally, i think there will need to be a legislative stimulus of some kind to keep things rolling forward when the data center construction boom slows, which may be never at this rate. lower rates can only do so much to spur investment in the face of massive uncertainty and structural change.

the fed governors will never have a better opportunity to test warsh’s theories about tech-driven productivity growth in an inflationary environment, with no accountability for the decision whatsoever, than they do today.

and simplifying code is usually more straightforward than generating it… as long as you don’t care about backwards compatibility (which is the case for someone like me, who has no finished products or customers)

while there is no ideal balance, i’ve recently been gravitating towards an approach where i strive for completeness first, then for simplicity

i like this workflow because the closer a project is to completion, the easier it becomes to identify where there are redundancies

this helps the code work as it should at the cost of increased complexity — yet sacrificing simplicity is a real cost

not only can the cognitive overload become unbearable, it’s harder to keep all the code consistent, which increases the risk of new bugs… all in the name of reliability 🤦‍♂️

when writing code i try to keep it as simple as possible (the key words there being “as possible”)

because complexity is sometimes necessary, since so many different things can go wrong

so i add all these fallback patterns and layers, trying to account for everything that could possibly happen

yeah. was it infidelity? fact-finding gone wrong? a misguided attempt to drive traffic during the slow nfl offseason? other? idk. journalists/coaches generally shouldn’t sleep with sources/players. but honestly, imo, sometimes there are exceptions (violent abuse is different, no exceptions there).

i get it’s hard to sell a fan base on the strategy of “tanking until we score a generational prospect in the draft,” but if that’s the optimal strategy, it is what it is! avoid comfortable lies and seek uncomfortable truths — like how the wizards are probably going to suck for a long time!

the illusion of meaningful games becomes more important than the reality. this way everyone can enjoy a full season of basketball! but because there are 30 nba teams with only 15 players, and individual players have a big impact on team success, the competitive dynamics will always favor tank-offs.

relegation is the obvious solution to nba tanking. but owners are probably unwilling to risk their bottom line here and instead agree to try and solve the problem by yelling at their coaching about the appearance of competitiveness, while letting actual competitiveness take a back seat.
