Charlie Kirk spent his life‘s work and all of his energy and time targeting out-groups while arguing for a world in which gun massacres would be easy to enact, plentiful, and inevitable, and he became famous and wealthy doing it, and we’re now not supposed to mention that because it’s not polite.
A Facebook post that reads: I want to start this off with the fact that gun violence is NEVER okay. Ever. But if you haven’t posted or shared about mass shootings, or children dying in their schools, or people dying in their pews or in their place of worship, or when they’re in a club with their friends in a place they feel safe to express themselves in authentically, or Democratic leaders being shot with their dog earlier this year in their own homes, and are now memorializing the man who actively encouraged such violence in the name of the Second Amendment, please remove yourself from my page. It’s really rich seeing some people more concerned NOW when they’ve been silent for years. Some of us have grown up in a world where we learned to barricade our classrooms at the ripe age of 5. Some of us still plan their exits in large spaces and crowds knowing what the risks are. Some of us have been talking about the seriousness of gun violence for YEARS and have been ridiculed for it. Some of us have been told that we were too young to know what we were talking about, that were “advocating for the removal of god given rights” when asking for basic gun control laws, and to sit down and shut up. So forgive me if I care more about children in their schools, or folks in their places of worship, or grocery stores, or movie theaters, or a club, or attending concerts, or football games, or people just doing their jobs, than a man who’s helped perpetuate this violence for years. Your fake morality rings hollow to me.
