The idea that you need to send corrupt sociopaths as Ambassadors to DC is so funny, because it's a standard we have never applied anywhere.

We don't appoint corrupt gangsters to embassies in Moscow or religious fanatics to Tehran.

Also, Mamdani is able to handle Trump fine without becoming him.

Have been watching some of the Lancashire match on the livestream today. He is still a class act - and great that he is still playing county cricket.

Clearly a concerning issue but hyped out of all proportion by the BBC. And Peter Tatchell talking about Asian asylum seekers “swarming” was also pretty poor. LGTBQ asylum seekers are vulnerable in a way most people would not comprehend and anything that adds to this is completely irresponsible.

It is a fantastic, chilling evocation of Germany in the Nazi era.

Russian missile strike on Dnipro: 5 people killed and 25 more injured.

Just like that. In the middle of the day. Just to cause more suffering to Ukrainians.

All of the victims were civilians. Ten of those injured are in critical condition.

So pleased. I remember asking a Hungarian colleague who around 2018 when Orban would be gone - and she said it was all hopeless. Thinking of her and others tonight.

Interesting - also had one buzzing round the bedroom at about 7.30. Persuaded it to leave and later seen in the garden.

The album it is taken from, Selling England by the Pound, is magnificent. Peter Gabriel era Genesis were amazing, and never the same after he left.

Ministers working with Labour backbenchers to temper Mahmood immigration plans Exclusive: Starmer urged to go further with exemptions if he wants to avoid widespread anger from his own MPs

Home Office robotically repeating its line-to-take "We must be honest about the impact" - while steadfastly refusing to be remotely honest about the impact on individuals/families, social care, or the economy and public finances.

Having flown a lot for work (retired now) I haven’t flown since 2019. I avoid as much as I can for environmental reasons. But also haven’t really got into the “romance of rail” thing either - got train to Nice earlier in year and it is a long, six hour journey from Paris.

Absolutely horrific that the mayor of London needs this level of protection in the first place. How many other mayors need it? But how many others are Muslim and subject to so much bad faith and outright dishonest reporting and commentary? That's the real story here.

“Bucha survived 33 days of russian occupation, terror, torture — 33 days of total evil. 600 murdered Ukrainian men and women. Russia called it staged. Russia always does this.
Actually, all evil acts this way.”

President Zelenskyy addressed the European leaders at the Bucha Summit.

Pretty much the same in my case with Trainspotting - have never watched the film but feels like I have seen clips of most of the scenes. And do want to watch the Godfather..

Port Vale supporter here. I was at the match earlier. Wycombe much the better team. Vale had a few chances and better in second half but result didn’t really flatter Wycombe.

A long time ago but I really enjoyed a Very Peculiar Practice. Grim, dark satire with some ludicrous characters but very funny.

Played cricket with him at Norton in the early 1980s. Still a decent player with a dry sense of humour..

Sinking heart feeling, reading this.

I normally dislike the phrase ‘cowardly attack’ but this seems a prime example. Despicable antisemitic attack on soft target that will harm people who are old, sick and vulnerable (and will add to fuel for those who want to sow division in our city).

This is an extraordinary saga that Sunder is pursuing indefatigably. The BBC has repeatedly tried to excuse itself from responsibility for allowing Nigel Farage to lie egregiously about immigration without challenge. It is illustrative of a much wider malaise & so very important. Thank you, Sunder.

Yes. I did Russian to A level and started basic Polish a few years back. The occasional word is the same or similar but that’s about it. And Polish is not an easy manga to learn..

I love seeing them. Can remember being excited to see little egrets in Brittany over twenty years ago when they were much less common in the UK. Now they are everywhere. Assume the result of climate change.

He could do worse than have a chat with some voters here in Chesham and Amersham. Safe Conservative seat until Lib Dem win in 2021, and stayed Lib Dem in 2024.

Rory Stewart’s account of working for her in government should have told anyone who was interested everything they needed to know about her suitability for the role of PM.
