When I was reading slush, if it didn't grab me and make me want to keep reading I didn't put it through to the next stage. But I wasn't the only one reading, which is a good thing because it's all subjective. It's harder with your own work, though.

I enjoy a mix: of length, tense, POV. Anything really.

This is the way to go. Why is anyone complying with the 'writing with words and punctuation means AI' nonsense?

We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other's happiness, not by each other's misery. We don't want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone, and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone.

My shelves are an over-filled mess with 3 uneven bookcases side by side. I'm planning on buying some matching Ikea ones and doing one wall when we redecorate to give more space for books. I like how you have the smaller ones in between.

Yeah. We have 'consultants' trying to teach us how to prompt and create/use agents to 'make our jobs easier' and I can't seem to get through to my colleagues that they're trying to get us to teach the 'AI' our jobs so they don't have to pay for what we do. But it can't even read a calendar.

People saying, 'I asked ChatGPT' or Copilot makes me want to shake them and say 'Use your fucking brain! ' but I'd get fired for that and I need to work for a free years more.

Every Friday, we meet a BFS member & peer deep into their soul. This week we're getting a large dose of the Goblin King (of course!) with @katiebruce.bsky.social, our Yorkshire events organiser, who's a sucker for women with swords.

I feel like the people 40 years ago would point to Ronald Reagan and shrug.

It's worth supporting someone who is trying to put out a positive message, as well as using ethical means to do so. I hope it goes well!

Got mine! And she's a beauty. Lovely soft t-shirt fabric. Here's me wearing it. Faceless, of course, to go with the theme. ๐Ÿ™‚

As an atheist, I find this cringeworthy. Worse, it reminds me of the very religions you're speaking out against. It has the same evangelical fervour, where you're trying to push your beliefs into a conversation that didn't ask for them or even mention anything tangentially relevant to them.

I thought he didn't care about the strait and everyone else could sort it out because America has enough oil? (I know, if his lips are moving he's lying, but it's hard to keep up with which lie is the current one).

I tried with Signal too but most people won't because the people they are in contact with won't and unless there's a mass exodus, most people will stay put. But hey, you're doing what you can, one step at a time and that's something!

This one might be good for you bsky.app/starter-pack...

There are a lot listed in this thread: bsky.app/profile/skyp.... Look for ones that are relevant to you and what you're doing and then follow the people in them, and ask the owner to add you.

Can I ask for some advice please? How can I grow this account? What works and what doesn't? What are stater packs and how do you get added to them?

Thank you to anyone who responds ๐Ÿ•Šโ˜ฎ๏ธโœŒ๏ธ

I've only ever had it happen with short stories so far (because that's all I've published), but it is a lovely feeling to know that someone enjoyed somethig I wrote, and took the time to let me know. ๐Ÿ˜Š
