#Dartmouth professor and literary critic @citiless.bsky.social traces the circuits of grief and melancholy with poet, essayist, and novelist Billy-Ray Belcourt on the Novel Dialogue podcast, hosted by literature scholar and Dartmouth assistant dean Sarah Wasserman.
Posts by Matt Hooley
New at PB: In a new episode of Novel Dialogue, poet, essayist, and novelist Billy-Ray Belcourt speaks with critic Matt Hooley (@citiless.bsky.social) about his debut novel, “A Minor Chorus,” and finding “a voice that could focalize the desires of a community.” Hosted by Sarah Wasserman.
The man who was killed last night wasn't the first Black man killed by government forces in DC since the government occupation of DC. He's like the 6th or 7th. If you're Black, you know that's how it is, no one makes a fuss over our murders & they're not big news.
ICE is targeting Native businesses & community/resource centers in Minneapolis. They harassed people at Pow Wow Grounds & sat outside of the American Indian Women's Resource Center for 2 hours last month. Many Native people (that we know of, there's definitely more) have been kidnapped by ICE.
If you want to support communities terrorized by ICE and DHS while getting query feedback or manuscript critiques, this is the auction for you.
Elderly man wearing only shorts with a blanket over his shoulders is flanked by ICE officers on either side as he descends the front stairs of him home in the snow. “A man, whose family requested a Hmong interpreter, is detained after ICE agents and other law enforcement officers conducted an immigration raid at his home, days after an ICE agent fatally shot Renee Nicole Good, in St. Paul, Minnesota, U.S., January 18, 2026.REUTERS/Leah Millis” via @idreesali114.bsky.social on X

Another person taken today in Northeast. ICE left their car out in the road and pepper sprayed legal observers, directly violating a federal judge’s orders from earlier this week.
"Homeland Security refused to release more information, unless the tribe “entered into an immigration agreement with ICE.”
The audacity of this demand.

Minneapolis won’t be intimidated by Trump’s secret police force. #ICEOutForGood
We visited Renee Good's memorial.
There, we met a group of Somali Minnesotans — who too have been viciously attacked for weeks — warmly hosting everyone.
Flowers & stuffed animals galore.
Neighbors continually offering sambusas & hand-warmers & water.
Grief. And belief.
Scenes from Minneapolis:
it is time!
An official from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis told MPR News that armed U.S. Border Patrol goons came onto school property during dismissal Wednesday and began tackling people; they handcuffed two staff members and released chemical weapons on bystanders.
IMHO, this is the best way to frame this. Whether the shooting was or was not legally justified (and remember that the legal precedent tends to be incredibly cop friendly) is very different from whether the Trump administration is telling the truth about what happened. They are not. They are lying.
Because this has happened to me - a shelter in Spokane was so notorious for its targeting it had to close, and I'm tired of not speaking on it - I need people to understand: if you're an undocumented Indigenous person, you are a target, and the Gov't knows you will have no community to help you.
gotta say also that if you’re not Muslim now is really not the time to be telling folks that actually his win means nothing for them 🫠
Like jfc stop being a racist little shit
actually all of the organizing networks and connections people built together as part of the movement to get Mamdani elected are important
And hope is politically extremely valuable
I think the ”super radical” takes that Mamdani is a counter revolutionary phenomenon are extremely tired arm chair shit
Also he is gonna be Mayor of NYC so anyone who was expecting him to lead the revolution either works for the NY Post or doesn’t understand the system or both
[Goose meme]
