πΉ I'm currently running a TPSR-based skateboarding program that I've designed to help a group of students develop responsibility skills.
πΊοΈ Something that has come out of this project are Visual Learning Roadmaps that break down TPSR Level look-fors down for reflection and goal-setting. #PhysEd

My hope is that we shift towards experiences that are more focused on developing not only physical literacy, but leisure literacy and a sense of place.
I wrote about how I'm trying to achieve this at my school here: www.thephysicaleducator.com/blog/bespoke...
π Something I never thought I would look into purchasing for my #PhysEd program:
π¦ Hunting blinds.
π§οΈ These blinds are weatherproof and easy to set up. They've been a great addition to our Forest School units as we've been able to go outside to learn even in the worst of weather!
π Here's a fun #PhysEd game for you: Kay Tag!
π₯ I love using this chasing and fleeing game to help my elementary school students learn about player roles in games.
π You can find the full rules and builds here: www.thephysicaleducator.com/games/key-tag
π Introducing a new classroom ritual to my #PhysEd students.
π Our new Full Value Contract is on display outside of the gym. Before entering the gym, students are expected to "Gimme 5" (i.e. tap the "I'm all in!") card to show their commitment to our FVC.
π Writing up a post with more info asap!
Just updated my physical literacy mural yesterday (well, the background). Photos are off to the printers and will be up by the end of the week!
Any chance I could access this? I love reading new research!
Hahaha I love that! Thanks for sharing!
π€¬ Teaching #PhysEd in a loud, split gym, with a revolving door schedule broken down into 30-minute blocks can be enough to drive anyone insane.
π§ To save my sanity, I've been doing my best to adopt a "pedagogical problem" mindset.

β³οΈ I got to introduce golf to my P-2 #PhysEd students this year thanks to the support of Golf Canada's First Tee program.
π€ Most of the early lessons focused on not whacking your classmate with a golf club. We came up with the "4S of Safety":
π Scan
π£οΈ Signal
π Sidekick
ποΈββοΈ Swing
β
As somebody who obsesses over curriculum, I always dreamed of designing my own set of #PhysEd outcomes.
β¨ Last year, that dream became a reality.

π»ββοΈ Teaching outside used to be something I avoided at all costs.
π€·π»ββοΈ These days, outdoor education has become a major component of my #PhysEd program.

For the little kids, Iβd definitely start with orienteering with landmarks and maps before getting into compass work. We then worked on general sense of direction (e.g. sun rises in east, sets in west; moss grows on north side of trees). Found these to be pre-reqs for compass work.
πΊοΈ In my Spring Forest School unit, students learned how to use landmarks to navigate the woods.
π For practice, we played "Stuffy Safari". I hid 8 stuffies near landmarks. Kids got hints and used binoculars to find them!
π§Έ Can you spot the bear in this photo?
#PhysEd
Definitely planning. A lot of work goes into making sure activities are safe, visual, and effective (especially when introducing new activities in the woods). I find that blogging about my experiences serves as a reflection tool AND a keepsake to help make planning for efficient next year.
π§ This year, I got *closer* to teaching my Primary (K) students how to use a compass in #PhysEd.
π§βπ¨ It took some spray paint and new visuals, but weβre getting there!
π΅ Blue on your belly.
π§ Dial it in.
β¬οΈ Put Red Fred in the Shed.
β
Green means go!
πͺ Closer every attempt!
π₯³ The 2024-2025 school year was one to remember.
π Some of my personal #PhysEd highlights include:
π³ Forest School adventures.
π΅ββοΈ Teaching kids to mountain bike.
π΄ββ οΈ Introducing Treasure Time.
πΊοΈ Building the KCA Roadway.
π I'm grateful to get to do what I do, and I can't wait to be back next year!
π«£ I couldnβt help myself. #physed
It was so much easier than you would think! The students (even my primaries aka kindergarten kids) were very engaged, and the fire you see in the group shot was the biggest we made. Happy to share more if you want!
π₯ Yesterday's #physed lesson was FIRE!
π§― Like, actually.
π― Students got to learn how fire is a force of nature that must be respected, its role in helping Indigenous peoples thrive in cold climates, and the fundamentals of building a fire.
βοΈ It's all part of our Winter Forest School unit!
I havenβt taken the kids out skiing yet, but we just wrapped up our skating outings.
I labelled the back of all my skates with their size, lined them up by size. This made it easy for volunteers to grab a pair that fit.
Next year, Iβm using spray paint instead of labels (one colour/size)
π Donβt mean to boast, but I think I might have the prettiest classroom in the world today. #physed
It was SUCH a blast! Iβll be writing up a reflection post this weekend to share more. Iβd do it now, but Iβm exhausted and my whole body hurts lol
βοΈ Today, I'm hosting Winter Wild Day at my school: a full-day, outdoor-education based field day for upper elementary students.
π· As part of this, I've transformed the sled hill at our school and made posters to help students learn a) ski trail difficulty ratings and b) how to assess risk. #physed
βοΈ As annoying as shovelling snow every morning may be, winter weather creates opportunities for physical activity that just simply aren't possible year-round.
πΏ I'm grateful to be able to make the most of all this snow with my students in #physed! Our Winter Forest School lessons have been a blast!
Itβs great to be here, Jenny! Iβm obviously in great company!
