Newcomer Alg 2 students developing content knowledge and language simultaneously: write about similarities and differences between the graphs when given the equations of 2 polynomial functions, then revise to improve both the mathematics and the language. 🔥

Really enjoyed ending my Friday in an Algebra 1 Success classroom listening to 2 students engaged in dialogue about exponential functions - student to student talk in service of course level understanding! #OaklandTeamMath
Teachers did some Hexagonal Thinking this week to make sense of how different ideas are related. #OaklandTeamMath
I appreciate being in an Algebra 2 class today and hearing the teacher support equitable engagement in teams by prompting “person closest to the door/me/wall” starts this time. And students were asked to record what teammates said! 🎉#OaklandTeamMath
🎉 Lesson Study Today 🎉 Appreciate the team that made their practice public for our collective learning. #OaklandTeamMath
I was a great session! I frequently ask teachers to take on a student hat during PD and it was a new twist to be asked to choose a specific student persona. It was a session that I suggested Oakland teachers attend and I am glad I did!
Courtney Ortega 🔥 at last night’s ignite talking about the power of co-craft questions! #cmcmath #OaklandTeamMath
And now @howiehua.bsky.social is throwing out hats!!! 🎉🎉🎉
You know it’s a party if there is a t-shirt catapult! #cmcmath
“Make the kids work more than us” @motoncheff.bsky.social

love hearing this when thinking about feedback- the work shouldn’t all be on the teacher! #cmcmath
Appreciating Sarah Pape and Gary Lo’s CMC-North session on Making the Most of Turn and Talk incorporating Notice and Wonder, Co-craft questions, Slow Reveal Graphs, Collect and Display, and Discussion Supports (sentence stems). #cmcmath #mtbos
Excited to be learning at Asilomar! #cmcmath
This is a great example of using tools strategically. I also appreciate moments when I have seen students get a Chromebook from a cart unprompted and graph a function to help them make sense of a task.
I notice the use of "opposite" and I really want to ask her what she means when she says opposite.
Heard today: "I am an exit ticket teacher." What does this mean to you? #mtbos
(I am curious and I didn't have an opportunity to ask the speaker to say more.)
Joined a math PLC in action yesterday. We all watched a 6th grade lesson together and I appreciate the debrief focused on naming the instructional decisions that raised (or decreased) the rigor for students.

I appreciate seeing 6th graders working on units of measure card sort! T gave opportunity to revise- go look at another group- what change would you suggest and why? #learnwithIM
Last week I got to watch OUSD High School students cheer on their peers in a math bee at Life Academy! 🎉 Can’t wait to be back at Life this week for lesson study! #mtbos
