Low were such a great band, always worth seeing live (and the Things We Lost In The Fire tour with Labradford is one of the best shows I've ever been to), and even the albums I don't like as much have songs I love on them

yeah, and much like ICE, going after the small indie venues, the people who can't afford to pay the license fees (or even just don't know about it, because not everyone starting a venue does). attack the most vulnerable.

oddly, I DID play covers there once. Release party show for a Current 93 tribute cd that I and another local band were on. But that might have been before the PROs started hounding him about it

a friend had a small gallery venue that had a ton of shows. He would regularly get ASCAP/BMI/SOCAN folks stopping in, sometimes not identifying themself trying to catch the bands playing covers. It was pretty crazy.
