I don’t know why Mario movie discourse gets me riled up. “It can be better, kids deserve better.” Yeah but kids can also turn a literal cartoon about a toy line being wiped off the shelves into a canon that endures to this day as whatever counts as modern legend. I think adults get way too involved in kids’ stuff when kids need to sort for themselves what’s good and what’s bad. Kids already adore this movie. I would have adored it, too. When the kids grow up, they can sort out for themselves what’s wheat and what’s chaff. Same as we all did, usually without our parents yelling in our ear about how bad and hollow this movie is, actually. As long as something wasn’t rated R, I was left to watch it and disassemble it for myself. Yeah sure my parents would roll their eyes stuff on TV, there’s no universe where the average parent was impressed with MASK or Turtles, even tho people nowadays make careers out of disassembling these cartoons and pointing out details that we now consider artistic choices. tl:dr Hey millennials, leave them kids alone. There is a lot, lot, LOT hurting kids in America right now, and a stupid movie that will probably make them happy for a day is the least of those problems.

I’ve been going to bat for the animated Mario movie like a dumb fool because I just want kids to be allowed to determine what’s good and what’s bad for themselves. We had our chance to build our own legends out of even the most cynical cash-grabs! Now it’s our kids’ turn to try!

despite all my quibbles with how Asa herself was handled in regards to it… I absolutely think this was the best ending to asaden’s relationship and resolution of what was driving them together.

they now live in a world in which they do not /have/ to matter to each other, and they’re better for it

the more i think about csm's ending the more 1) i hope fujimoto gets some rest from the hellish schedule 2) it's undoubtedly an era defining work, and the concept of "battle media" not just in animanga but in general has shifted in a way not seen since HxH maybe

I guess my hottest take on the whole thing is I think this was his plan for the whole story.
