i am also still turning the wtrei fic around in my head which is vaguely set in the same universe as reunion au just like closer to the "canon" point in time to theyre like 19/20. do wataru is THEORETICALLY not associated with ES (and works full-time as an actor), fine is atp on "official" hiatus

the back and forth of wanting to return back to the way things used to be completely with the knowledge that youve become a different person in the years since then and like the kind of layer on top of that of..those changes were for the better, youve become more like yourself than you ever were

idk. and in that context wataru being trans of gender has become like thematically relevant and present because its a very important aspect of their Presentation that has CHANGED and, at least early on, theyre like actively hiding it and trying to be the way they used to be

it is a common and popular fanfiction concept (characters reuniting after years apart & a "bad" breakup & realizing that with the growth theyve had jn the meantime... now is the time for them to be together) and ive been enjoying it as a vehicle for character growth & study

i think a lot abt how like. i could have not made wataru in reunion au transgender and it would have probably led to the fic being a lot more... "viable" ig to be widely read by the fandom at large. like i am largely playing with common tropes!!
