Date: 8/15/97 The Right Stuf International is pleased to announce the acquisition and impending release of “The Irresponsible Captain Tylor.” This 26 episode television series has been at the top of anime fans’ “must see’ lists for years, and will be available for the first time ever in the US. The series will initially be presented subtitled, with dubbed versions becoming available in 1998. The time is the distant future, and two civilizations are preparing for interstellar battle. The problem is that the UPSF’s forces are stretched to the limit, and the Raalgon Empire has declared war on them. One thing is certain: both sides are undergoing massive internal power struggles and there is going to be a great deal of useless killing before it's over. Anyone in the army has to seriously question their commitment and their sanity. And, then there’s Tylor. Justy Tylor is for all outward appearances a bumbling clod, a directionless 20 year old man on some distant future world. Drifting aimlessly, he gets it into his head that enlisting in the military would be a good way to glide through life and collect a nice fat pension after an invisible career. One would think someone like this wouldn't even be let in the door, let alone given the chance for glory. Tylor, though, has perhaps the most disarming manner in the Universe... there isn’t a person alive who can out-charm him. Even with this ability, common wisdom dictates he wouldn't get very far before someone caught on and quietly buried him someplace unimportant (pretty much what Tylor wants, actually). That’s where his second gift comes in: he’s usually an excellent judge of people.
Winding up with a command of his own, the Soyokaze (“Gentle Breeze”, a ship with a reputation for going through commanders) and its crew venture out in search of the enemy in defense of their homeland. The crew views this outsider with contempt, if not outright hostility. It looks like Tylor is about to join the long list of people who were driven out of the military or are dead. The planners hate him too: they'd be very happy if he simply failed to return from his patrol. The Raalgon? They've got a score to settle with him as well. Nope ... it doesn’t look good at all for Captain Tylor. Just don’t try to explain it to him... he'd probably just fall asleep.
