republicans are the biggest risks to men if measured statistically. they want you to spend all of your money on sports gambling apps and crypto scams and then die an early death from roid abuse and supplements

As you’ve pointed out before, there are *other* centre-left leaders in the democratic world who aren’t incapable of leading their governments because of the changing nature of the media environment etc etc etc
He’s running
I was musing on “fixing the foundations” a few weeks ago - about it being one of those lines that seems fancy for a second, then as you think on it, you realize how poor it is as an ambition.
Foundations are important - but like, how many people admire and take inspiration from them?
A graphic showing Pope Leo in front of an electoral college map of America, showing him winning all 50 states. The Threads post points out he has Middle America roots, +34 favorability, and is tanned, rested, and ready
RIP Pope Julius II. You would’ve loved controlling the most powerful military in the world.
Crazy to think a barrister dislikes making arguments because they’re not good at it
Italian government to Trump…
I last read this in uni and absolutely *weeped* at the end
Canada, Mexico, Panama, Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia, China, Nigeria, Denmark and Greenland, Iran, Spain, the UK – and the Catholic Church.
Kinda fascinated by Trump’s need to pick a fight *with absolutely everyone*
If anyone deserves the title of “Anti-Christ”, it’s Trump…
"Isn't anyone going to help that poor man?" 🤣
Tonight I'm thinking of the many Hungarians I've met over the years - many of them abroad against their wishes, many of them queer - who haven't stopped fighting, for sixteen years. For most of us, Orbán was an on-and-off nuisance on TV - at best. For them, he was a constant nightmare.
Wow.
Disagree--I think we need a Trump Remembrance Museum with exhibits detailing his crimes and the motto Never Again.
The comments under this 😑 Bernie Sanders can run again and again, but women are expected to be one and done.
It’s crazy that “joint control” is even the US position. They weren’t controlled at all six weeks ago!!!!!
Just learnt that the MP I used to work for has defected to Reform.
I imagine because the pinnacle of his parliamentary career was a whip in the government of Liz Truss and there was no way he was going to be given a seat again.

Anyone who contributed to this event - the politicians and journalists who normalised him or submitted to his narratives, around the world - should hang their fucking heads in shame. They've put us in the most dangerous geopolitical situation for a generation and left a people at risk of genocide.
What’s driving this mania, I think, is fear. In King Lear, Goneril and Regan discuss how their father’s madness is merely accentuating the flaws he has always had. Similarly, Trump has always tried to grab whatever he wanted. Yet he is especially megalomaniacal right now because he is afraid that time is running out. Power is very subtly ebbing away from him. One way or another, soon he will no longer matter. This fear is behind the craziness of Venezuela, Greenland, and Minnesota. In a great thread recently, Jamelle Bouie outlined all the ways in which Trump’s authoritarian moves have been checked and pushed back against. Even the supposedly supine Congress is restoring funding to things his administration said it had cut. Yet there are two areas in which the President can do almost anything he likes – foreign policy and immigration enforcement – and so he is trying to distract people from his flagging power by awing them with violent spectacle.

I don't think Kamala Harris would've threatened to commit genocide in Iran on a random Tuesday morning a month after starting an unwinnable war with them for no reason
Millions of American voters wanted to be villains. They came to believe it’s the key to success, while goodness is weak, woke, loser stuff, done only to signal.
Offered the option of unvarnished villainy, they enthusiastically took it. Seeing others suffer more made them feel big.
And here we are.
An oil trader I follow on Insta made the point that – why do people think Britain would get any additional oil/gas from the North Sea? The operators would sell it to the highest bidder.
Unless, of course, they were nationalised…
I mean, if Iran gets $2m a ship passing safely through the Strait, they can probably build twenty hyperloops
