A line that lives rent free in my head since the first time I read this essay: “There's no point in having fuck-you money in the bank if you never say "fuck you"!”
Also, it's *not* *a* *gift*. Stop it.
A stupid message from Slack informing the user that "AI is turned on" for their team (a.k.a. workspace), as part of a trial that the user did not request. It details the specific features that are enabled, including huddles notes; thread and channel summaries; and AI assistant apps. As mentioned at the beginning of the alt-text, the user did not ask for this to be enabled, ever. Why Slack chose to do this is obvious: money (and perhaps an unrelenting hatred for the environment and society as a whole).
I don't know what the "correct" BSky acct is for Slack, but...like...we didn't ask for this shit, so don't automagically turn it on for -any- of my workspaces, even as a "trial." Get fucked.
While I agree with a lot of what Dario Amodei says, the fact he goes on TV and says these things without offering any meaningful solutions (AI training for workers and higher corporate taxes aren’t a solution) is ridiculous.
At best this is fear mongering and at worst cruel marketing for Anthropic.

A tweet from Representative Thomas Massie that reads: I just viewed 2 Top Secret FISA docs. 1) FISA Court opinion that raises serious concerns about FBI implementation of FISA 702. 2) letter by Senator Wyden describing a secret government interpretation of FISA law. The Constitution requires I vote No on FISA 702 reauthorization.
I sent a classified letter to House and Senate colleagues about a secret interpretation of surveillance law that every American should be concerned about.
Representative Massie is right. The Constitution requires EVERY member to vote against a clean reauthorization.
This is so dumb and horrid.
After I posted the USAID deposition videos on PlainSite's YouTube account, within hours, YouTube punished PlainSite by demonetizing the account for posting public records, in violation of their own terms of service. It's the second time in a month that YouTube went out of its way like that.
Roger Sollenberger: Péter Magyar, the new Hungarian prime minister, says CPAC was paid by the Hungarian government and will not be any longer
Oh my what a Schlapp in the face this is

good day for resignations
mr president
this is legitimately fascinating as an a real life demonstration of why trump is flailing
This story is so fucked up. Someone was giving the worker who was down CPR. Another worker wanted to basically tag in for that person because he thought they must be getting tired, and he was told to get back to work and look away.
I'm not religious, but I respect the importance that faith plays in people's lives. Posting an image of yourself as God is literally blasphemy. It shows a disregard for sacred imagery and, by extension, for the very concept of the divine. Trump should apologize.
i will vote for any candidate who offers up this slogan
So, let’s game this out. A Chinese flagged tanker pays the toll and transits the strait. We interdict it? What if the tanker is escorted by a Chinese warship?
can’t be blockaded if you are the blockade
Marco looks like if a normal person tried to out-drink an alcoholic and finally conceded after he realized he could barely stand
“We would have won the war if not for politics” makes about as much sense as saying “we would have won the war if our army wasn’t destroyed and our capital sacked”
The NYT is just lying to you here.
GW Bush passed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act, which, among other things, required USPS to prefund future retiree benefits. That year, before PAEA went into effect, it posted almost a billion in profits.
I think most people assume that oil just protects itself, like tobacco or whatever other industry
but oil realized that it needed to deform the course of human development to create a universe where oil can never be removed
The rhetoric of ”Beirut is civilized because it’s Christian, not like that uncivilized backwater Yemen” is why no one should believe that Tucker Carlson is any sort of ally to subaltern Muslim communities, even if right now he chooses to focus his white nationalism on attacking Israel.
(...except that we -- ecologically, societally, economically, etc. -- can't really take much more of it...)
AI Jesus was the inevitable outcome of white evangelical protestantism.

When Swalwell says, “I made mistakes in my marriage in recent years”, he is admitting that he repeatedly had sex with subordinates in his campaigns/office.
He is asking us to believe that they were consensual, as if that would be full exoneration.
A boss like that should be fired, not promoted.
Post from Dale Partridge claiming nobody wants to live in diverse neighborhoods
I quite happily live in a neighborhood where most people do not share my religion, where multiple languages are represented, and where people have come from a lot of different countries.
Bigoted assholes always assume everyone else actually shares their bigotries.
