The U.S. has seen a manufacturing boom since the Inflation Reduction Act, especially in the emerging Southeastern battery belt. But these projects and associated jobs are potentially at risk with proposed changes to tax credits.

Rural Ohioans oppose solar farms, right? Not so, developer finds A large majority of public commenters support Open Road Renewables' plan to build a big agrivoltaics project in central Ohio.

“I support solar energy because of the price of fossil fuels and the problems with them,” said Logan County resident Roger Blank in a Dec. 10 comment.

Solar has taken off in red states. Trump’s funding freeze is causing panic On his first day in office, the president paused billions of dollars in funding for clean energy projects initiated by Biden

“We’ve been working on a plan since April 2023 that would provide solar energy to hundreds of households in two low and moderate income Columbus neighborhoods,” says Mullett.
“Unless the Trump administration makes a 180-degree turn on funding, that expectation will obviously not be met.”

There is a trend to push Renewables to ever more green; which is great. Until addition cost means it no longer is low cost. Generally speaking if it is not lowest cost Utilities go Natural Gas or Nuclear. There is not the same push to make these technologies greener. Other than CCS.

Sure! Duel use of most solar farms is a low cost and easy action that mostly requires some advanced planning. But is site specific. At a bad location or added late in the process or when a particular duel use is forced can add significantly to cost. Which might mean a Natural Gas plant instead.

US solar manufacturing is finally thriving. Will Trump derail it? The industry can now make 50 gigawatts of panels in the U.S. Solar cell factories are coming next, but may be hindered if Trump kills a key tax credit.

The nation can now produce nearly 52 gigawatts of solar panels each year, per a new tally from the Solar Energy Industries Association. That’s up from the 40 GW of capacity reported in late 2024.

The U.S. solar energy industry has succeeded in doing something that would have been hard to imagine a few years ago: It has officially built enough factories to meet the country’s demand for solar panels.

Will Trump derail the thriving industry?

'There is an enormous opportunity' It's rare to find a scenario where everyone comes out on top, but researchers at the University of Western Ontario say they've found that elusive outcome when it comes to pairing sheep with solar panels. The researchers examined the potential of agrivoltaics growth in Canada and published findings in the Applied Energy journal. In layman's terms, agrivoltaics means using farmlands for solar panels and agriculture at the same time.  'Canada had an early start in North America in sheep-based agrivoltaics, where sheep would be brought in to trim the grass on large-scale solar farms,' noted study co-leader Joshua Pearce in

"Why are electricity prices so high if renewables are so cheap?" I have been asked.

The main reason: expensive fossil gas still sets the price 63% of the time in wholesale electricity markets in EU27 & >90% in some countries.

Got my second power bill and... let's just say I LOVE my solar panels.
Sounds weird, but I'm actually kinda annoyed that every kiwi I spoke to with solar was kinda blasé about all the bucketloads of money they're saving. I think it's a kiwi thing. We don't like to toot our own trumpets. GET SOLAR!
