And what about the people who want soft mattresses? Will nobody think of them? Why only cater to the firm mattress audience?

I suspect we’ll learn that the pardoned turkey, was involved in January 6th, brought charges against Jim Comey, and gave Trump a Rolex watch.

Quoted text, "As with many modern plagues, the theory that em dashes belong to the machines has a disputed origin. Some people say it began with a racist-seeming X post. Others say it started on the ChatGPT subreddit. Still others suggest the trend was noticed by people working on AI detection tools, or trying to eliminate bot-spawned slop from forums. Wherever it came from, the theory seems to have started going viral around this past February—objectively the dumbest month, a time when no one should try to have thoughts, much less broadcast them—and soon, em dash discourse was convulsing the internet."

The em-dash is being maligned. Me, joining the em-dash discourse—despite knowing it's exactly the kind of February nonsense the author is mocking—because this parenthetical is chef's kiss perfection.

In college Comp 151, I taught a C- student who typically wrote about his car. He turned in an essay about the global-economic impact of narco-syndical-terrorists. Then I found his essay published in Time under a different byline. He got an F. I wonder if that student is in this administration?

As a fan of Emily Dickinson — I adopted em dashes for a lot of my writing. So versatile and unassuming — I enjoyed not having to remember grammar rules or confess that I actually knew the appropriate use of commas, semicolons, and colons.

A warm, nostalgic illustration depicts a peaceful Arbor Day Eve scene in a cozy living room. A young boy with light skin and brown hair, dressed in striped pajamas, sleeps soundly on a wooden floor with his head resting on a pillow. Nearby, a potted evergreen tree stands tall, surrounded by small potted saplings. A red cardinal with a sash labeled “CARLY” perches proudly on a wooden stool next to a pair of red apples. In the background, a brick fireplace is dark and unlit, but hanging inside it is a framed portrait of Smokey Bear in his iconic ranger hat. The setting glows with soft golden light, evoking a sense of quiet reverence and connection to nature.

Absolutely none of what he claims here is true. There is a lunatic here but it is not the people advocating for due process.

Christi was taking the photos. I was preseverating on why the protest didn’t have music or food trucks. Also realized if I’m going to keep going to these, I need to make some signs. It’s just hard to pick a topic.

I wouldn’t expect anything less from you, Margaret. But I’m also not talking about recognizing it now. What shook me in the book I quoted was that even Hitler wasn’t taken seriously by some of most intelligent at the time. People didn’t realize they were enabling evil until it became unmistakable.

In stories, evil stalks in black capes & unmistakable form. Real malevolence arrives in daylight, dressed in mediocrity-armed with shallow & stupid promises. The truly dangerous appear as figures of mockery-too preposterous to take seriously. They win through quiet capitulations, not dramatic clash.

I will always maintain that COOL HAND LUKE is a better movie than Shawshank. They’re both good. But Cool Hand Luke has more to teach us — more that is applicable to the moment we are in.
