I got one too! Mine is apparently for 24 years -- my only cell # I've ever had.

The unusually long mid-winter dry spell in January was a big culprit for the dryness along the coast. It was influenced by that "polar vortex" back east which paused the normal progression of storms through the PacNW. Winter dry spells are typical here, but this one was historically long-lasting.
In addition to Oregon having a historically low snowpack, it has also had one of the driest 12 month periods on its record. Since last April, Oregon has recorded its 5th lowest amount of precipitation received since 1895.
There are also a couple of drifting buoys in the area, most with SST, but not in the Gulf.

It's amazing the big box stores have just started stocking spring garden stuff in Oregon, but people have been trying to buy things for the last few weeks.

‼️The 2025 PNW Water Year Impacts Assessment is here
Last year, a warm and dry spring led to rapid snowmelt and low summer streamflows prompting drought emergencies in ID, OR, and WA. Explore regional impacts on water resources, agriculture, forests, and more.

This is right. Some of the most impactful flood events in the Pacific Northwest have occurred during Very Strong El Niño years, although we only have 3 instances to go by since the early 80s.
You're leaving 10's of dollars on the table by just giving it away!

Willamette Pass in Oregon is still very warm and nearly snow-free. The snowpack is typically holding the most water this time of year. This will be an important year to assess how human and natural systems cope given that this situation will occur much more frequently in the coming decades.
Nothing in particular, but the McKenzie SNOTEL is showing zero snow and I've heard that without the snow and with the road closed, cycling around there is great
Lost all his parlay bets, did he?
Great shot! That's what we'd like to see about this time of year. :)
The Willamette Pass in Oregon, at about 5100ft, is usually under about 10 feet of snow this time of year. Today, it is virtually snow free with a temperature of 61°F.
It's definitely not one-size-fits-all!
Eugene, Oregon, is at 77°F as of about 2pm. Its record March high temperature of 78°F (tied this past Monday in fact) seems likely to fall over the next 2 hours.
I have a laundry list. Happy to discuss maybe over a call? It'll be a bit depressing.
There was already a small wildfire (11 acres) near La Pine, a bit south of Bend in Oregon, on Tuesday. At La Pine, temperatures have been in the 70's, humidities as low as 10%, and wind gusts near 30mph over the last few days. These conditions reflect the development of flash drought in much of OR.
Very much not typical for March: for the second straight day, La Pine, Oregon, experienced temperatures into the mid-70's, relative humidities near 10%, and gusts into the 20's. This winter has also been mildly dry in the region. They'll get a couple more days of this. #orwx
Update: As of about 5pm, Eugene, Oregon has tied its all-time March temperature record of 78°F. Up the hill at Willamette Pass (at 5000ft elevation), it's 62°F.
Yes, although with a caveat. In contrast to the PNW heat wave of 2021, this one is not slated to obliterate all-time records which I think is an important factor in how it is perceived. Even though the heat is seasonally extreme, it is not extreme compared to temperatures experienced during summer.
Eugene, OR, broke its daily record temperature today! Currently 77°F and within 1° of its March record of 78°F. Forecast for today was just 71°F.

Interesting why someone who lost their intellectual edge decades ago and is way past retirement age is trying to take on such an ambitious endeavor.
