Now to try to wrangle OxFOS22, OxFOS23 and OxFOS25 into something resembling the same format so we can link the DOI on the main OxFOS page. A librarian's work is never done!
OxFOS26 is now archived and linked in ORA: dx.doi.org/10.5287/ora-... This is the programme but if you go down to 'related items' it is linked out to all the respective events. Which in turn have their respective slide deck for download and recording link in the 'notes' field. Thanks ORA team!
And while there's nothing 'wrong' about writing a book like that it's one of those that has been horrifically mislabelled! As a librarian I am appalled that anyone anywhere refers to it as 'romance' or 'romantic'. It's not and it never will be, it's a gothic tragedy with an unreliable narrator.
Turns out you CAN make the human liable for what they submit using GenAI.
I had to for GCSE and wholeheartedly concur. Especially as I'd been sold a 'dark and brooding romance' character in Heathcliff and well... he's a terrible toxic emotionally stunted man and Cathy is worse!
I can't go (teaching that day) 😭
Oh I do. Mine was cancelled too. Lucky for me there was a Euston train three minutes prior to mine and it was cancelled on time for me to get on that. Have had to pay to go home via London...
Well played. You got me.
If I hadn't already been gotten this would have worried me you little blighters.
The bad news: train home also cancelled. Good news: Cancellation announced in time for me to catch the Euston train and 'upgrade' my ticket to get home via London.
Good luck Caroline!
Today in 'the horrors Librarians make up' the term 'yassified clippy' came up when discussing how to make Copilot even worse. The vision was: a modernised vector style clippy with the Copilot GenAI behind it. Suffice to say it was agreed to be a bad thing.
Open textbook maturity model from University of Illinois Chicago I'm at 1!

Incredibly powerful quote from Elaine Sykes to finish this very moving plenary in her memory: “Librarians, this is a call to arms - for change to happen we need to be courageous leaders, even though it seems an impossible task…” Moved to tears here at #UKSG2026

Oh hey. They have special ones where I can show off the new photos @ruthmacmullen.bsky.social organised last month! #UKSG2026
Be gentle with us!
The bad: 5 trains and two extra hours transport. The good: timed Uber Eats order to arrive at hotel as I was checking in. UKSG presentation tomorrow! #BrickingIt
Better than me. Uber eats in the hotel room after a 5 train change session. See you tomorrow Kirsty.
I can only hope this goes the same way as Papacy Bans historically - In that it actually boosts readership of said books.
I hadn't thought of the Thesis/Monograph reasons for closure. *adds that to the list* though like you said, it's complicated. Looking forward to seeing that book then!
Comming up soon! Am I nervous? Yes, yes I am nervous. Be gentle with me!
Just sent off my speaker form for #UKSG2026 - My first time ever speaking (Though I will be with conference veterans @cathdishman.bsky.social @tmorley24.bsky.social and @beckywojturska.bsky.social ) Let me know if you are at UKSG (and selfishly: if you'll be a friendly face for my talk!)
@samuelmoore.org any non STEM ideas? I suppose 'lack of funds for publication' is a sad but true reason. Also 'too much third party copyright'
One I heard last year: The researcher does two types of research and one of those research types conflicts with the other (say research in criticism of an authoritarian regime and then work with researchers who live in that regime) and both being connected and open presents a case for damage!
Another one: The Research was funded by private companies which have corporate secrets and require results to be closed. (Unpalatable to some open folks but a fact of life!) or perhaps a patent is being applied for.
