The municipality must secure "water licences that give the facility access to up to 24 million cubic metres of water annually.

That's enough water for about 460,000 people over their lifetimes, drawn from a municipality that last year declared an agricultural emergency because of drought."

Ford 'mislead' us again. Even now, he is redacting the words of the top civil servant whose words are NOT SUPPOSED TO BE REDACTED under the current or the proposed FOI law.

The Ford gov just HIDES info that is damning or embarrassing or even informative.

How Ford’s freedom of information changes could hide details of private jet purchase | Globalnews.ca The province took possession of a second-hand plane last week but was forced into a reversal by Sunday morning due to sustained public backlash.

NEW: The Ford government’s changes to freedom of information laws could leave key questions about the purchase of a private jet unanswered, as critics argue the Progressive Conservatives are rewriting legislation to “protect the king.” #OnPoli

Ford skirts public consultation on freedom of information bill On Thursday, government House leader Steve Clark revealed that Bill 97, the Plan to Protect Ontario Act, would bypass the traditional public consultation process and go straight to third reading and f...

The current FOI act allows the public to request government records — and has compelled the province to disclose documents revealing the Greenbelt land scandal, the Skills Development Fund controversy and others.

The changes would restrict access to those kinds of records.

How fortunate for Ford that his JET mea culpa is dominating the news cycle.

Why?

Because his self serving FOI changes, included in the omnibus budget bill, may be tabled TODAY & PASSED INTO LAW TOMORROW (Tues).

It's a Trump-like move (both changing the news cycle & being unaccountable)

The Ford govt just opened up Covid boosters for clinically vulnerable ppl but you'd never know it. Kieran remains in his hidey-hole & there's no promotion of this vaccine that keeps people out of hospital.

The average admission cost per C-19 patient is about $28,500. Life-saving & cost-saving.

Ontario correctional facilities operating at 130% capacity as overcrowding worsens | Globalnews.ca New documents obtained by Global News using freedom of information laws show Ontario's correctional facilities are overflowing, with no sign the situation will improve.

80% of people in an Ontario jail haven't been convicted of a crime.

“This lays waste to the principle of the presumption of innocence. It also lays waste to the argument we have a catch and release system and that our bail is too lenient.”

Chairs aren't quite Uber-Mayors but they are key power brokers, even though they only vote to break ties on Council votes.
Giving them Strong Mayor powers is fundamentally altering a job that's existed since the 1970s and the least the Province could do to justify it is make them electable.

Ontario school board supervisors charging varying fees, some billing government HST | Globalnews.ca New invoices obtained by Global News using freedom of information laws show a lack of uniformity in how supervisors are working and being compensated.

NEW: The Ford government initially said school board supervisors would be paid a max of $350K / year. What wasn't mentioned is that several are billing through their private companies and adding HST.

That means they could cost closer to $400K. #OnPoli

This is obviously bad, but even worse is that nothing will be done about it, that nobody — nor governments, not the market, not standards-setters — will hold Google’s monopoly to account for vandalizing the information ecosystem. It’s another marker of the long-term collapse of corporate regulation.

Statement from MP Marilyn Gladu

Today, the Liberal Party issued the following statement from Marilyn Gladu, Member of Parliament for Sarnia - Lambton-Bkejwanong: "Dear citizens of Sarnia-Lambton —Bkejwanong, "The past year has been like no other that Canada has ever faced, and I've heard clearly from constituents that you want serious leadership and a real plan to build a stronger and more independent Canadian economy. "That is why I have decided to join Prime Minister Mark Carney and Canada's new government as the newest member of his caucus. It is a privilege to have served as your Member of Parliament for more than a decade, and I have made a choice to do the best thing for our community's priorities, and importantly, for our country.

Ontario to build on ‘strong mayor’ system by appointing ‘strong’ regional chairs Ontario’s municipal affairs minister is proposing to appoint a slate of regional council chairs and give them additional powers, as the government has done with so-called strong mayors.

This is outrageous! By giving his government the power to appoint ALL regional chairs across Ontario, Premier Ford is effectively seizing control of regional governments.

School boards. Killing FOIs. And now, regional councils.

Ford is dismantling our democracy. www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/arti...

“It’s just a tax grab, and they should take out those *cameras*, all of them”

I thought Dougie was opposed to "tax grabs"? Why is he taking money away from hard working Ontarians trying to get to work? Dougie supports breaking the law when it put kids at risk but fare evasion is the real danger 👌🏼

CHANGE THE LAW, RETROACTIVELY.

That is what Ford is doing.

Does that appall you? If yes, call Ford and object to his abuse of power.

Transgender women banned from Olympics by new IOC policy The new policy limits eligibility in women’s events to biological females based on genetic screening beginning at the 2028 Games.

The IOC has announced a trans and intersex athlete ban requiring an invasive SRY genetic test for female athletes.

In the 20+ years trans women were eligible, only one ever competed and none ever medaled. This is solving for a problem that doesn't exist.

This is an ad hominem attack on the privacy commissioner, who wasn't consulted on Ford's assault on the FOI system. Whenever Ford doesn't have a good argument, he attacks whoever he views as his opponents with "it's ideological", "it's politically driven", etc.

This is pure deflection.

... and don't be fooled: this isn't about addressing crime.

In Ontario, 80% of inmates haven't gone to trial. 56% of criminal cases are ending with charges being tossed.

People — including innocent people — are being punished without a conviction. At the same time, victims aren't getting justice.

We know Jeff Leger and SDM have lied before (Nota bene: bsky.app/profile/chri...), and I think the Minister's briefing notes probably are the more accurate version. But remember, Ford is trying to ensure that ministerial briefing notes cannot be FOIed anymore.

It serves a political purpose to create the problem of open air drug use across Ontario, especially in an urban centre like Toronto. Conservatives can claim that "crime is everywhere!" and weaponize the public's fear — no matter that they created the problem. No matter that thousands will die.
