Frontiers | Segmented dike intrusion linked to multi-level magma storage during and before the 2025 eruption at Erta Ale (East Africa) IntroductionDike intrusions can assist continental rifting and plate divergence. However, our understanding of the magma dynamics during diking and the archi...

Following the #HayliGubbi eruption, our paper on the Erta Ale dike of Jun-Jul is finally out. InSAR, optical data and seismicity showed the temporal evolution of the intrusion and the interaction of magmatic sources, including a sill inflation in Hayli Gubbi. @earth-science.bsky.social #geoscience

The #HayliGubbi eruption came after a period of unrest that started in June-July 2025 with a large dike intrusion in the southern sector of the Erta Ale rift. Our InSAR study will be out soon but you can have a summary at the link below. @earth-science.bsky.social #geoscience

Cross-scale strain analysis in the Afar rift (East Africa) from automatic fault mapping and geodesy Abstract. The formation of continental rift systems is characterised by the interplay of magmatic and tectonic processes. Their evolution involves a wide range of timescales, from centennial scales of...

Our new study on @egu.eu SE combines automatic fault mapping, geodesy and rock dating to reconstruct the tectonic and magmatic evolution of the Afar rift during the last 4.5 Myrs. @sasbrune.bsky.social @sorcerinsar.bsky.social @derekkeir.bsky.social @gimmi-p.bsky.social @earth-science.bsky.social

M6.0 just now in Ethiopia, highest magnitude #earthquake in the swarm up until this point in time. The moment tensor only shows 12% double couple, which commonly means that the earthquake is not caused by rupture on a single flat fault plane (or it could just be poorly determined). πŸŒ‹πŸ§ͺβš’οΈ

Ethiopian national defense forces vehicles are widely participating in the activities to rescue people in Awash, Fentale and other areas from the potential disaster caused by the earthquake

Ethiopia: The Disaster Risk Management Commission with the Ethiopia military has evacuated over 20,500 people from earthquake-prone areas in Afar and Oromia. In Afar, 7,000 of 15,000 at-risk residents in Awash Fentale Woreda and 6,223 of 20,000 in Dulecha Woreda have been relocated.
