“How lucky is the United States that everytime they look for democracy in other countries they find oil instead”- Spain Deputy Gabriel Rufián
Taken literally this is the Times saying it doesn't have an opinion on if women should vote and I for one do take it literally
I'm in my 20s and I have vague memories about the world around me smelling much, much worse when I was a little kid.
Especially car exhaust and the lingering scent of cigarettes (and my parents didn't smoke!).
Also just like, everything smelled bad. Like the whole world. Car exhaust, cigarette smoke, industrial exhaust, dirty waterways, worse cleaning.
Again, the first Tea Party rallies in April 2009 -- heavily promoted in advance by Fox News -- only had about 300,000 attendees across 750 cities, but the media treated it like the Second American Revolution.
There will be multiple *individual* No Kings rallies today that have more people at them.
Evelyn Normielib is real and she is coming and there is no better place to meet her than a No Kings protest

Footage from inside Trump’s golf club Super Bowl party reveals the Bad Bunny half time show played on the big screens.
What a bunch of hypocrites.
NO EVIDENCE EXISTS SHOWING THAT VOTING BY NON-CITIZENS IS A REAL PROBLEM, but Donald Trump confidant Steve Bannon is still calling for ICE and the U.S. Army to surround swing-state polling places in a show of force for the midterm elections.

Being a journalist is sick: I just contacted a pre-eminent jaguar conservationist in Argentine with a question that has been weighing on me for ages and he wrote back right away with an informed answer.
Obviously this is a setback but I think it's important not to let it discredit the concept of building a long, extremely narrow glass city in the middle of the desert. www.ft.com/content/036b...
Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.
People will still debate what Star Trek "should" be but, if they do some research, they'll discover what the man who created it meant to convey:" I believe that humanity will reach maturity and wisdom on the day it learns to value diversity in life and in ideas.” -- G Roddenberry
Men who look upon themselves born to reign, and others to obey, soon grow insolent; selected from the rest of mankind their minds are early poisoned by importance; and the world they act in differs so materially from the world at large, that they have but little opportunity of knowing its true interests, and when they succeed to the government are frequently the most ignorant and unfit of any throughout the dominions.

It's not the algorithm. There's no 'algorithm' on 4chan, after all.
It's not exactly 'social media', either. It's us. Our culture. We haven't adapted to the new leading medium of human communication. When we do, it won't be any more toxic to us than print is (which gave us the Wars of Religion).

Near the center is an object that resembles an edge-on view of a hamburger. There is a diagonal dark strip (the meat patty) of dust, running from 1 o’clock to 7 o’clock, that obscures a central star. Curving away from either side of the dark strip are glowing white clouds (the buns) where dust is reflecting starlight. Credit: NASA, ESA, STScI, K. Monsch (CfA). Image processing: J. Some photos of Haitians running in the streets. There's smoke in the background. It looks like political disorder.
A Haitian man stands next to a wall with some barbed wire behind him. The original Magnum caption said the man felt Haiti was a prison and he dreamed of making it to the United States. He wanted to be a rapper.
Some men take a break from building a boat.
A boat sets sail far off into the distance.
A story I found about Haiti:
In 1999, a group of Haitians were tired of political disorder and dreamed of a better life in the United States. So they built a small, 23-foot boat by hand using pine trees, scrap wood, and used nails. They called the boat "Believe in God."
Buchanan’s main flaw was that he was a weak president with a vapid and flawed moral vision. The most valid concern about Lincoln is that he assumed all-but dictatorial powers, though in pursuit of a good and just cause.
Trump takes these two examples and extracts the worst possible combination.
Trump is like if you took Buchanan’s moral and practical ineptitude, Nixon’s self-centered paranoia, Grant’s and Harding’s tolerance of corruption, Wilson’s bigotry, and Burr’s treachery, and put them all in a blender. The sum of all flaws.
Trump is often discussed as one of the worst presidents in modern American history, but it’s important to remember that such a categorization is far too narrow.
Donald J. Trump is one of the worst people in modern American history.

What do you think made America great?
I’ve traveled the world, and every time I come home, I’m reminded of what makes this place special: the culture, the mix of people, the constant diversity. I love this country.
And I also know who truly hates America:

• 3 Percenters
• Proud Boys
