I was just in an AM spin class at the local gym where they played a bunch of ‘90s alternative hits, and I’ve gotta say, there’s nothing better than feeling sweat pour down my touch-of-morning-BO, old-man frame while belting out @eve6.bsky.social.

Today, my dog nipped the man who was clipping another dog’s toenails at doggy daycare. The other dog’s name? Elton John. (No, my dog’s name isn’t Bernie.)

Agreed. Same thing at Connecticut College. When people put closed-minded idiots, in power, you get idiotic closed-minded laws.

Me too. Listened to it every Xmas as a child. Just a strangely soothing album. Surprisingly great players on it. The full-cast “Days of Xmas” absolutely slaps.

How did you know?!

All I want for Xmas is a @lizzobeeating.bsky.social/Ben Folds collab. Maybe something theatrical like “Boxing,” or “Smoke,” where the melodica part could be done on the flute.

MGMT - "Kids" Original 4/20/03 Concert Part 5 YouTube video by Rad Scientist

I’ve literally watched this 10 times in the last 3 days. It reminds me what it was like to go to a small liberal arts college with kids just like these ones — and well, because it’s just pure f*cking unadulterated joy. youtu.be/vNC1W2m4Uug?...

Recently re-read the lead of the first long-form feature I ever wrote. Not too shabby for a 24-year-old kid whose music writing experience amounted to a 6-month unpaid internship at Rolling Stone and some big f*cking dreams. Pretty awesome that I got to interview and write about my hero, Jay Farrar.

…and we sat around talking until about 4, and then I drove up the hill to my house, and I got home and wrote that song right then.”

…and I remember that night, I went to the Viper Room and I was driving home and I stopped at my friends’ house — Samantha [Mathis] and Tracy [Falco]. We used to jokingly call that little house in Laurel Canyon “Hillside Manor.” I went over to their house at 2 in the morning, they were still up…

…she was in the hospital that winter, and I would spend days there [with her]. And then I would go to work. We were recording Recovering the Satellites right then. And then sometime after midnight or something, I would head over to the Viper Room (or not, depending on how late I was in the studio)…

…I wrote “Long December” between the hours of, I’d say, 4 and 6 in the morning. I remember the night very clearly, because we kind of had a crazy schedule. My friend had gotten run over by a car — one of my best friends. She got destroyed by a car, the whole left side of her body got crushed, so…

…although, you never hear anything about Jim Morrison playing the piano. But it doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have had one. It was very rundown and falling apart. It was an old Spinet, and I really liked the way it sounded. I wrote a lot of songs on that piano. Almost all of Recovering the Satellites…

Since we’re 2 days deep into my birth month December, here’s what Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows told me about his hit song “Long December”:
ME: Do you remember exactly where you were when you wrote the song?
AD: Yeah, very clearly. The first year I was living in LA, I rented this cottage…🧵

I swear I always thought the “so am I” part referred to his erection, which I’m assuming it probably didn’t.

It’s still strange to me that the only band that really got it right at the time was Metallica, and everybody was like “F*ck those greedy bastards,” and now look where we are.

People on here seem genuinely surprised that Trump is doing f*cked up shit now that he’s a month and change away from the White House. What the f*ck did you think he was going to do? Fill Washington with puppies and rainbows? If you voted for him, f*ck right the f*ck off.

Maybe New York is dead, after all. Keens, the iconic steakhouse known for the famous mutton chop you talk about ordering before getting steak instead, has been sold for a cool $30 million to Tilman Fertitta.

Fun fact: After the late Charlie Colin left the band Train in 2003, he briefly went on tour with nonet Slipknot, subbing for guitarist Jim Root, after Root broke his wrist in a freak accident. His intro to the band came through the late Paul Gray, whom he met in Rotterdam while on tour with Train.
