Plus, in a way, it gives the characters "autonomy" from the start since there's that distance/differentiation between us (even if they're based on me)
Versus trying to speak as/for them, and thus feeling more uncomfy with their actions than if I'd firmly established "this is not me or my mind."
I think I'm also getting into a mindset that helps me make OCs better!
Before, I'd try to BE the character and it got me into weird headspaces in the past, especially if the character was a bad person or had gone through bad things
Whereas now, I look at it as writing someone's biography for them
