The @AFT is heartbroken for Senator @markwarner.bsky.social and his family on the death of his beloved daughter Madison. Her memory is a blessing. We surround the Warner family with love

You know I will tell you when things are worth worrying about. The SAVE Act was never one of them—they needed 60 votes in the Senate and that was never happening. But I’m still glad it failed tonight.
“Overall, 37% of adults approve of Trump’s performance as president, while 63% disapprove —including 50% who said they disapprove strongly — putting his job rating at the lowest point of his second term …Two-thirds of respondents also disapproved of Trump’s handling of inflation & the Iran conflict”
The price of oil jumps sharply, and stock futures tumble as traders digest renewed tensions between the U.S. and Iran over the critical Strait of Hormuz.
It's heartbreaking to hear about this shooting. My prayers are with everyone in Shreveport today.

Teachers and parents are calling for devices down, eyes up, hands on learning. Learn how the AFT is supporting active learning and advocating for guardrails on tech in the classroom to support students' learning in my latest column ⬇️

I’ll say this about Melania Trump’s proposal to replace human teachers with AI-powered robots: It is devoid of both humanity and evidence of any benefit. Read more in my new column about the technology trap impacting our classrooms and disrupting students' learning ⬇️

My new column out today explores how we—teachers, parents, and lawmakers—can manage the Big Tech juggernaut to harness the benefits of education technology and AI while mitigating the harms. The student-teacher relationship must always be the foundation of learning.

AI does not change the essential purpose of education: teaching students how to think. I am wary of the dangers of AI, which is why we're advocating for AI regulations and launching training programs for educators that are grounded in safety and people-first technology.

Research shows cellphones and social media are making our kids sedentary, solitary, anxious and depressed—plus having adverse effects on learning. In my new column, I share ways we're working to mitigate those harms: devices down, eyes up, hands on learning. Read more ⬇️

AI is the most disruptive change maybe ever, certainly in my lifetime. AI, social media & addictive algorithms disrupt learning and harm kids' well-being. We have to act—to put up guardrails & boost engagement. The student-teacher relationship must be central. My column:

I agree with this: “This has been the greatest blunder in the past decade of K-12 education: the decision to give every child a personal computer and to gamify everything from standardized test preparation to recess. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/19/o...
Why are the ”wonks” freaking out? Working class folks need this kind of relief now… that’s why @AFT is aggressively advocating for this relief for workers and families that live paycheck to paycheck www.nytimes.com/2026/04/19/b...
This redistricting measure is a direct response to Trump as we fight back against attacks on our democracy. This is about fairness and the right of the American people to pick their representatives.
@proftwolf.bsky.social and I hosted a webinar for Virginia members this afternoon to discuss our new higher ed framework, share the latest on our advocacy for expanded collective bargaining rights, and urge people to get out and vote for the redistricting ballot measure.
I want to give a special thank you to the trustees who help manage our members' retirement funds and to Dr. Teresa Ghilarducci for speaking at the expo today.
Pensions are not a giveaway, they’re benefits that people earn every day they work. I enjoyed seeing the hundreds of @uft.org members who came out to the pension expo today to hear how their union is fighting to protect their retirement benefits. That includes advocating to #FixTier6 here in NY.
It was great to be with @aftnewjersey.bsky.social members at their convention this morning and share how we’re working as a union to build power to fight for what working families need—like strong public schools & colleges, a life they can afford & a democracy to exercise real rights and freedoms.
Rather than take responsibility for his low polling numbers and doing something to help working families, the president is throwing around insults? This juvenile conduct sure as hell isn't doing anything to lower the cost of gas, groceries, or healthcare. www.usatoday.com/story/entert...
Glad to be with @mayor.nyc.gov and @sanders.senate.gov recently to talk about what workers and working families need. AI is not going away, so we need human beings in the driver’s seat & real oversight, not the Big Tech chatbots or robots making decisions. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...
I don’t care if someone is a Republican, Democrat or independent, we have to create a safe and welcoming environment for young women. 19thnews.org/2026/04/me-t...
Investments in clean energy have been successful thanks to union work! This new report shows that a pro-labor strategy and integrating union apprenticeship programs helped develop projects that include effective training and better safety and operability.

President of @nyspef.bsky.social Wayne Spence writes a timely AFT Voices piece reflecting on his own experience as a state parole training academy graduate and questioning why the required trainings for ICE agents on our streets have been slashed.

This is what public education is about: people stepping up, together, to make sure every student has what they need to succeed. Learn more about @aft.org’s #PublicSchoolProud campaign ➡️ go.aft.org/proud
From @aftct.bsky.social paras supporting students in every corner of the school day, to @floridaea.bsky.social members speaking out about how food insecurity impacts learning, to @utlanow.bsky.social members winning real gains for educators & students after 14 months at the table. #PublicSchoolProud
One of the things I’m always reminded of is how much it matters when educators and school staff consistently go the extra mile for their students. These 3 stories made me especially #PublicSchoolProud this week.
Investing in workers and communities works – the data proves it!

More photos from our members at yesterday's lobby day on Capitol Hill! We had more than 90 meetings with lawmakers to advocate for the legislative priorities that support working families and our unions.
