"If you're going to pick a fight, at least win it. The other side will always fight back.
All this was foreseeable and avoidable. We should not have started this fight."
See also, Iran.
Yes, I kind of want to watch Arrival again now!
Who could brilliantly imagine societies do different than ours, couldn’t even see the social revolution that was already happening, all around them and project that forward. As though technological And societal progress would only ever affect the lives of men. And I KNEW that wasn’t true. 2/2
I remember reading lots of classic sci-fi as a girl and being so excited by their fresh vision of a future radically different than today. Then, inevitably, the protagonist would go home to his adoring full time homemaker wife. And I would be do shocked that these men… 1/
I totally get that! There’s… a lot to think about.
Morning! I am reading a collection of Ted Chiang short stories. I know all of you know this already, but for the record: he’s really quite good, isn’t he?!
They should go for a long run off that short pier.
Did you know that Helen of Troy went back to Sparta and ruled there for decades after the Trojan war? As Menelaus' wife (awkward). You can read all about it in my story in the forthcoming anthology from Flame Tree Publishing blog.flametreepublishing.com/fantasy-goth...
Delighted to say that my own story will be appearing in the Helen of Troy volume! These books are so gorgeous, my words will look stunning... blog.flametreepublishing.com/fantasy-goth...
Delighted to officially announce that my story A Spartan Peace has been selected for the Helen of Troy anthology from Flame Tree Press. My story is told from the perspective of an older Helen coming to terms with her traumatic life decades after the war. blog.flametreepublishing.com/fantasy-goth...
Thanks so much! I'm really pleased!

Oh I need to read that, not least because it’s a comp for my WIP novel.
The stupidest explanation is always the most likely with this guy.
Got a kind personlised rejection for a short story of mine today (they said I made it past the first round and they enjoyed my wry humour and unique take on the subject). It's just... so nice to get actual confirmation that a real human read the story and felt something.
Statistically, a vanishingly small number of crimes are committed in Vatican City.
On the other hand, the country does have the world's lowest birth rate, so as a leader I guess his performance is mixed...
Reminds me of one of my favourite passages from Catch-22. "I don't believe in God just as much as you don't believe in God. But the God I don't believe in is a kind God. A loving God! A merciful God."
Uh oh. It seems my brain has conjured an excellent plot for a speculative murder mystery without troubling philosophical questions. I really should write the thing, now. But can I be arsed to do so? That is the question.
I’m so freaking happy to see Victor Orban go down in Hungary. He spent 16 years rigging power in his favour, persecuting his enemies and appealing to the worst among his people. Authoritarians can be defeated. Take note, America. But let’s not wait that long.
Came here to say that! Talat was a much loved and much spoiled war horse. Thankfully!
Teenage Roo does the moderation for her family's influencer business. It's.. not great.
“.. The Iran war increasingly looks not only like another shocking humiliation but perhaps the greatest strategic blunder in American military history.”

engagement with the GPTs are getting one on one conversations with senior people about how to correct our wrongthink. They haven't dared approach me with it yet. I've made it clear to my boss that I would LOOOVE to explain why these things are not useful to me but they don't seem interested... Hm...
Well this whole thing started out as a simple Google search, but Google insisted on feeding me an "AI Summary" of the thing I was looking for, and it was so crap that it made me all stroppy.
Having said that, day job is force feeding this stuff on us. Staff members whose data shows "insufficient"
My new hobby is asking AI bots about things I know more about than they do and then calling them out on every key error or omission. It is easy, and fun! Also, bleak and horrifying!
Sisterly conflict features heavily in my current WIP...
By the way, in case you don't know - I asked for the book at my local Waterstones yesterday and they said they don't get theiri UK stock until June 4th. Not sure of that's for the whole UK or just them. Have it on order from them now (I prefer to buy books from shops if possible).
Impossible to disagree with a single word that Ben Rhodes (Obama era NSC official) is saying here:
