A screenshot from the game “Emily is Away.” It is a window in the style of AOL Instant Messenger, with a record of the conversation at the top of the screen and a box to type responses at the bottom. The player, username dontpanicx3, is talking with Emily, whose username is emerly35. It’s a long story, but the player and Emily hooked up awhile ago, and there are unresolved feelings, but the conversation has run its course and the only options to respond are “goodbye.”

So I started and finished Emily is Away, after accidentally playing the third game in the trilogy (I didn’t realize!) and it felt just as awkward and sad as I remember my early 20s were. 10/10 would choose emo song lyrics as an away message again

I dunno, I think the 1956-era mascot is really charming. I like his stick-figure legs. He looks like he’s dancing to “I’m a Little Teapot.”

Good evening to Sen. Duff’s social media manager! You might find that you get more engagement on these posts if you include alt text. It allows people who use a screenreader to participate in the discussion. There are a lot of people who will not share posts without alt text, on principle.

White male privilege is Geno getting to disrepect a Black woman peer on national television as his team lost and have sports media run cover for him. #Misogynoir is Dawn getting critiqued for defending herself and her team from said abuse, all while knowing she could never behave the same way.

What I love about the NYT is that to them, everything is possible. Maybe AI is alive. Maybe Republicans aren't racist. Maybe the new war in the middle east is good actually. Maybe a FEMA agent teleported (magically OR WITH SCIENCE, haters) to a waffle house. We don't know! Facts aren't real things!

I’ve been around the army for 53 years. Never been more pessimistic about the health of the institution — it’s likely to get much worse over the next 34 months. Rebuilding the norms and ethics of the profession is going to take a generation+.

It’s not a joke.

It’s a clear and frequently reinforced signal to the armed services that if you break regulations or laws you will be exonerated as long as your actions show fealty to Trump/MAGA.

No accountability as long as you’re on their side. Just naked corruption.

They’d rather the country be poorer and whiter than rich and diverse. Of course when the pie shrinks, the rich will demand the same amount and will tell you the crumbs you’re left with are because of immigrants or trans people or DEI. bsky.app/profile/apne...

The U.S. Army relaxed standards during the worst days of the war in Iraq--all the way through the surge. I was in front line units during that entire time, including battalion command. 1/5

A screenshot of the Contract Voting completion screen - the A&R Employees Union sent online ballots to members to cast their vote on accepting the terms of the new draft contract agreement. This screenshot includes a short timeline of the steps: Fill Ballot, Review Ballot, and Done. There is a large green box at the bottom with a checkmark, signifying that my vote has been recorded.

That makes sense. In my case, the quality of the response varied greatly among agencies in a single municipality, so I’d wondered if a centralized system would be better. But I can see this argument too
