Congrats for both, super well deserved!
The TAIR12 genome reannotation has FINALLY been submitted to GenBank. Now we await review and approval. Stay tuned for updates, hopefully within the next month. Thank you to everyone that made this project possible. @labschneeberger.bsky.social @bar-plantbio.bsky.social @sigmafacto.bsky.social
Check out this video made by my PhD student @miriamcsic.bsky.social about her project at @i2sysbio.bsky.social. Let's help her win the "yo investigo" contest promoted by @csic.es!
Drosophila follicle showing retrotransposons (pink & yellow) expressed in somatic cells infecting the oocyte
1/ Transposable elements are often called "jumping genes" because they mobilize within genomes. 🧬
But did you know they can also jump 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 cells? 🤯
Our new study reveals how retrotransposons invade the germline directly from somatic cells.

Looks like that @altmetric.com might soon be tracking papers on Bluesky. Fingers crossed, as I think this will further stimulate scientists to make the switch from Twitter!
Here we present evidence genes involved in plant-virus interaction may be regulated by epigenetic modules, with some of them having roles in tolerance to repeated infections. A fantastic collaborative effort with @sfelena and Kutnjak's labs.

It was a great pleasure to host Marco Incarbone for a seminar in our institute I2SysBio today with @sfelena.bsky.social. Great way to resume the new year with fascinating plant virus stories and great scientific discussions.
