Most Americans know what it would take to fix our broken country
- Abolish Citizens United
- Outlaw foreign influence
- End the electoral college
- Tax the oligarchs
- Reestablish rule of law
- Strict separation of church & state
It’s whether we have the courage to change our self-destructive ways
Congrats from a fellow Michigander!
Son waited till last minute to do taxes, spent far more hours than expected rifling through papers, staring at screens, made emergency cookies, experienced rage and despair and a sugar crash
No crying, but there's always next year. I'm proud to have bequeathed these traditions to a new generation.
Disappointed, though not surprised, I began to describe various life- saving components of USAID’s global health portfolio, highlighting how we prepare for and respond to emerging pandemic threats; support the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, malaria, and HIV; and immunize millions of children from the deadliest childhood diseases. I spoke for about five minutes, focusing primarily on our infectious diseases work and hoping to keep the attention of people who seemed to have no experience—or interest—in global health. When I finished, the room was silent, the political appointees looking at one another in what appeared to be disbelief. The silence was broken by Ken Jackson, who chuckled softly and shook his head. “Wow, there really is so much that USAID does that we never knew,” he said. “This is the story that needs to get out there.” Joel, also smiling, chimed in next, echoing Jackson’s amazement. “I had no idea you did all this,” he said. “As a Republican, when I think of what USAID does in global health, I assumed it was just, you know, abortions.”
This is NUTS

Here's the thing about USAID: it was illegally dismantled, but it's still... supposed to exist. And we can either fix things, or we can... accept a future where the richest country in history hordes its unlimited wealth and lets people starve everywhere? This is, like, actually under our control
Friend: wait, why are you so tired?
Me: I've been with people for 8 straight days. And I love you, but you're people and

The deep peace of friends who understand you. The deep peace of a no people day when you need one.

the extent to which so many men are sex pests is just baffling and depressing
you can just Not Do That
there is shit that's hard for me! remembering to take in the trash cans is hard! checking the calendar is hard! starting a design doc is hard! not being a sex pest: not that hard
i firmly believe that kennedy wants preventable diseases to rip through american communities since, in his warped mind, those who survive without vaccines will have proven themselves “healthy.”
men can’t understand what it’s like for women to see story after story after story of women being victims of sexual violence in a culture where it’s routine; what it’s like to live in a world that is fundamentally hostile to our existence. it’s a wonder we leave the fucking house, let alone thrive.
Everybody should watch this insane presser. It's like a bad scene in a Netflix thriller right before shit is about to go down.
To everyone who demanded that Dems fly back to DC to push for impeachment, 25th and/or a war powers vote:
They did. Republicans blocked it.
If you're not praising them today just as loudly as you were ripping on them a couple of days ago, guess what?
Ilan Wurman @ilan_wurman 🚨🚨🚨Columbia law professor Philip Hamburger just dropped an essay arguing that Trump is right about birthright citizenship. That now makes at least seven prominent law professors arguing to varying degrees that Trump’s EO is constitutional. Read about this development here: https://open.substack.com/pub/rationallybased/p/philip-hamburger-joins-the-birthright?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
SEVEN whole law professors?!
Here I was thinking that what mattered was every single judge who has ruled on the issue, 125+ years of accepted understanding of the 14th, and centuries of common law on the contours of jus soli. But if Ilan Wurman's side has SEVEN law professors, man, WOW. It's over.
Oh yeah definitely the one thing sci fi and fantasy has been missing is the male gaze
Do you know how EXTREMELY FUCKED UP SHIT HAS TO BE for me to be reposting Tucker Carlson positively???

As someone on Medicare who hasn't had an exam or new contacts in 2 years because I can't afford it,I feel this
This is, quite simply, an abnegation of one’s own personal humanity.
The willing embrace of death over life is the epitome of MAGA politics.
congratulations to MPLS’ very own @atrupar.com for the accomplishment of having the @whitehouse-47.bsky.social “rapid response” government twitter account calling him “just a sick freak” 🪅
TRUMP: "I'm gonna fuckin' blow up all the fuckers! I wanna use all the bombs before I die! Helter skelter! Helter skelter! Race war! Race war! Fuck Easter and fuck you, too!"
NEWS: "Trump promises to strengthen military in early morning Easter greeting."
In space no one can hear you Teams.
We've had universal birthright citizenship for 127 years. If that's a "suicide pact," it's a hell of a slow suicide.
I can't go to No Kings and I'm sad about it.
Now you know.
This is zuck one month after going on Rogan podcast claiming he would never takedown content based on government requests ever again
Matt Walsh -- who also wasn't there and who absolutely has an agenda -- has discovered something that has eluded the so-called historians despite all their "education" and "research" and "functional literacy"
They're called "primary sources," nerds, and he's the first one to use them

The sooner literally everyone realizes that for him the "country" ALWAYS means "me", the sooner we'll...I don't know, at least be facing this thing honestly? We passed getoutofthismess a long time ago.
