France passed a law requiring solar panels on every parking lot with more than 80 spaces.
Equals 10 nuclear reactors
Reduces heat island, shades cars
The US -- 800 million parking spaces. Most of them are uncovered asphalt sitting in direct sunlight.
Why aren't we doing this?
Humanity did that. Science did that. Publicly-funded research did that. Excellent universities did that. Diversity did that. International cooperation did that.
Artemis II is a perfect example of what we can do at our best.
Welcome home, Integrity crew!
The speaker looking at four photos of murdered children whose photos are on top of their backpacks on the airplane seats
NEW: The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament has travelled to negotiations in Islamabad with the backpacks and pictures of the murdered schoolchildren of Minab.
A powerful visual.

Our PhD student Kennedy Orwa, who studies applications of AI to health care, was hastily deported today to Kenya along with his 13-year-old son without opportunity to speak to legal counsel.
King 5 reports that he held a valid visa that was rescinded without explanation.
The political calculations that result in cutting NASA funding the day after the Artemis II launch must be fascinating
U of Minnesota has named a new School of Nursing scholarship after Alex Pretti.
I hate the framing of “Ms Rachel has found a new cause—“ because no she hasn’t. Advocating for children kidnapped and locked up by ICE is not incompatible with her advocacy of children in Palestine. You just want to make her advocacy sound frivolous and fleeting. She’s being consistent.
On top of the slowdown in grantmaking I wrote about last week - this is another deeply worrisome trend for scientists, physicians, patients, families, and basically anyone who wants new treatments and new tools to promote health. 🆘🧪🥼

Every scientific manuscript is secretly 3 docs in a trenchcoat
1) back&forth w/editors & rev's that max ~6 ppl ever see
2) paper w/all the stuff u think every1 wants to know
3) supplementals w/all the stuff u had to do JIC but know will bore every1 but the real ones
tbh most ppl just see abstract 😅
So far the war on Iran has cost $9.4 billion.
That's $1 billion per day.
$41,666,667 per hour.
$11,574 per second.
Thousands of lives lost.
People don't want this. They want a living wage. They want healthcare. They want to be able to afford a home. They want their basic needs met.
A mentee of mine has $$ to spend on training and/or writing retreats before May 2026. They would benefit from clinical trials, stats for early efficacy trials, qualitative analyses, CBPR and/or writing retreats for people from/studying minoritized groups. Thoughts? #WomenInSTEM #AcademicSky

WE LOST A MID SIZED CITY OF SCIENTISTS?!?
Literally, we are so obnoxious you guys
An ancient pause, a modern plea In ancient Greece, a truce was respected by warring city-states, allowing athletes and spectators to travel safely to Ancient Olympia for competitions and ceremonies of supreme athletic and spiritual significance. The Olympics were revived in their modern form in 1896. The truce’s resurgence followed nearly a century later, in 1994, as war raged through the former Yugoslavia. The proposed timeout starts one week before the Winter Games open on Feb. 6 and runs until one week after the March 15 Paralympics’ close. It is backed by a U.N. General Assembly resolution.
The US/Israeli illegal attack on Iran should be understood to be a clear violation of the Olympic Truce (much as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was which led to its suspension by the IOC) and result in bans for 2028 and the stripping of those Games from LA.

This was an amazing project to be a part of - learning happens SO VERY FAST that it really surprised me... and learning is related to prior knowledge in unexpected ways. Check out how prediction error drives learning! How do you think this would play out for DLD kiddos? #DevLangDis #Verbs #Education
This is a Nazi move. Stripping people of rights, invalidating their IDs, setting them up for criminalization and imprisonment.
If you don't support trans rights, you support fascism.
just announced: d+15 midterm
(seriously they get that old people vote, right? do they think the AARP just exists for fun?)
I don’t think people understand what’s this means: MEDICARE AND MEDICAID ARE BLOCKING ALL WHEELCHAIRS, WALKERS, CANES, INSULIN PUMPS, GLUCOSE MONITORS, CPAP MACHINES, NEBULIZERS, BEDS, CRUTCHES, COMODE CHAIRS, BED SORE PRESSURE PADS, CHAIR LIFTS, OXYGEN TANKS, BREATHING EQUIPMENT, to name a few.
Please read this article to the end. Even before ICE got involved, this started because this *blind man who speaks no English and uses a curtain rod as a walking stick* got lost on a walk and some Karen called the police on him and they tasered and beat him bc he didn’t drop the rod. WTF
Keep children and family appropriately dressed for severe cold weather.
BREAKING: The Department of Education has ended its directive that attempted to restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in schools nationwide.
This is a victory for academic freedom and education equity.

I heard about a killing of a Black man in DC by US marshals on a call from someone in the neighborhood then saw it confirmed by the organization @harrietsdreams.bsky.social & here. A Black man in DC was killed by the state today. Make the same noise for him as for anyone else when we have his name.
