@jheathershaw.bsky.social argues we need a legal conception of kleptocracy fit our current era of personalist global politics where transnational inter-elite relations and illicit activity have been revealed to span Epstein, Putin, and Gulf monarchies.
Young Israeli teens burning draft letters they received. A perfect example of noncompliance that people can participate in to fight back against fighting a foreign war. This is similar to how veterans here in the US are encouraging soldiers to refuse to carry out unlawful orders.

Ever wondered if your academic research gets picked up in policy circles? I gotta say I was surprised to see mine cited in House of Lords reports on the ‘future governance of the UK’ and I suspect many others might be surprised too.

My latest article with Xuan Qin at Fudan Uni is online at The China Journal! Our research evidences the lasting transformations in China's grassroots bureaucracy wrought by 3 years of zero-COVID, in which biosecurity enhanced & deepened political security.

@ripejournal.bsky.social just gave me the best birthday present!
My paper, co-authored with Samuele Bibi and Nicole Cerpa Vielma, discusses how Latin America's integration into international trade and global finance has influenced political cycles.
With a focus on Brazil, Chile, and Peru, we argue that the deepening of productive and financial subordination is one of the reasons why the recent wave of left-wing governments has fallen short of the inclusionary impact of the 2000s Pink Tide.

Focusing on #Hungary, we will explore how populist frames shape the support for financial nationalism.
