It's been 3 weeks since Congestion Relief Zone tolling went into effect, and the program is working!

We're seeing traffic move quicker into and within Manhattan, which benefits all New Yorkers—drivers, bus riders, emergency vehicle operators, pedestrians, and more.

Earlier this month, we announced the purchase of 265 new zero-emission buses that will operate on routes across the five boroughs. This purchase is made possible by congestion relief funding!

The way America builds homes is killing people America's inability to build enough homes in safe areas is pushing people to buy houses that are in harm's way.

A reminder that California environmental law as currently written basically encourages more housing development outside the urban core, which makes catastrophes like the LA fire more likely. www.businessinsider.com/affordable-h...

In the ruins of Palisades fire, confronting my elusive Malibu life Times reporter James Rainey ventured back to see if his childhood home in Malibu was still standing, while he reflected on 'Old World Malibu.'

Bill Stange: 'Malibu, he said, is a place that “no matter what, goes back to its wildness. They can build those big ol’ houses and do whatever they want. But they’ll never be able to tame Malibu. It turns out we are all just renters here.”'

Obviously victims of these fires need to be supported- but is rebuilding in fire prone zones the wisest decision? What about suspending single family zoning in safer areas of the city and state and encouraging dense urban development? Homes at the WUI will only burn again, only a matter of time.

50 years of housing growth in the WUI in California To assess the effects of exurban development in California, Neda Kasraee is exploring the long-term changes in housing density in areas under high wildfire threat.

A core part of "Build Back Better" is to know when to retreat. Council Members whose districts lost homes to fires should be fighting for more homes in the safer areas instead of fighting them (2 examples in LA just this week in the news)

What do environmental review documents look like for highway widening projects? Is the red tape as extensive? My guess would be not.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass vows to 'aggressively rebuild' Los Angeles
As wildfires continued to devastate the Los Angeles area, Mayor Karen Bass said at an evening press conference that she was “already looking ahead to aggressively rebuild” razed homes and businesses. “We’re going to clear the red tape and unnecessary delays and cost and headaches that people experience in ordinary times so that we can rebuild your homes quickly,” Bass said. “This is a massive effort, but we will be ready.”
