By sharing insights across cities and regions, the Caucus is helping municipalities better address gender-based violence, online harassment and the wider impacts these threats have on communities and democratic participation. 6/7
The Strong Cities Womenโs Caucus brings together these women leaders and practitioners to exchange experiences, highlight good practices and ensure that gender perspectives inform local approaches to community safety and prevention. 5/7
Across the Strong Cities Network, women #mayors, local officials and practitioners are driving action to build more cohesive, connected and compassionate cities. Their leadership is critical to shaping inclusive local responses to complex challenges facing their communities. 4/7
These challenges matter not only for representation but also for effective governance. #Localgov are often first to address impacts of discrimination, hate and social tensions, and womenโs voices in decision-making help cities respond to the realities of diverse communities. 3/7
Globally, women hold fewer than 1 in 5 mayoral positions, and their representation in local councils remains below 30%.
Women in local leadership also frequently face gender-based harassment, online abuse and threats that discourage participation in public life. 2/7
On #InternationalWomensDay, we're recognising the women in local government who are on the frontlines of building safer, more resilient communities, yet remain among the most underrepresented and targeted leaders in public life. โฌ๏ธ ๐งต
