How UUIDv7 makes your (database) life easier UUIDv4 has some fundamental limitations for databases, especially at scale. Enter UUIDv7 — an upgrade to make developers’ lives easier.

Thx. My work on UUIDs v4/v7, was sparked by @jasminfluri.bsky.social ,

Brag moment: new macbook isnt quite quite top-of-specs (M5pro, not M5max). But the extra money for nano-texture screen makes this 1st laptop I can truly use in garden.

Should I feel Outdated ?

The guys with the hammers only want to see nails...

Part of my job is now to control the hammer-guys, make m hit only the right nails in the right way.

when ppl take a deep sigh, and state..

"But that datamodel is Normalized..."

(as if that is a bad thing... but yeah, they would prefer 1 single CSV with the cstmr-postcode repeated at every invoice-item-line... )

Eh.. maybe, at the time, some regarded those innovations as horrible and over-the-top papal arrogance as well?

Assertions used in arc-relationship TL;DR: A simple use-case for SQL-Assertions: Adding a data-related constraint to an arc-relation. Demo using the Emp-Dept schema. Summary u...

An arc relationship is when a row can reference exactly one of many parent tables

The challenge is when a column in a yet another table defines which is the parent

@pdevisser.bsky.social shows how to use assertions in Oracle AI Database to do this

oh, it is just a one-off... no need to ...

you end up running that one-off for 100s of times, until it is good enough, and you wish you had it properly designed and automated.

Thank you after 21 years Throughout my long history of working with the Oracle Database, there are some things that often just take for granted, on the assumption that they have always been present. But there was a time in…

You probably need both.

When done badly, Scrum and DevOps lead to Q+D solutions.
Sometimes you need to step back and “design” your solution.

Imagine an order-shipping system with no “products” and no “customers”, and all data flattened, and endlessly repeated, into orderlines.

These things happen...

Eensch.
