Ah, but of course, Athens sidewalks are famously six and a half inches wide.

The only quarterbacks with a sub-0% passing DVOA from a clean pocket last year were Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.

Oh, no, not at al; just the odds of drafting a player roughly of Dex's quality there.
Dex will almost certainly be better than whoever goes at #10 for the next couple seasons, at least -- even some of the guys listed here took a little while to get adapted to the NFL.
The other players with at least 62 AV in their first 7 seasons at #10 in the common draft era:
Patrick Mahomes (2017)
Terrell Suggs (2003)
Chris McAlister (1999)
Jerome Bettis (1993)
Herman Moore (1991)
Rod Woodson (1987)
Al Toon (1985)
Marcus Allen (1982)
Jeff Siemon (1972)
Isiah Robertson (1971)
Dexter Lawrence produced more Approximate Value in his first seven seasons than 81.1% of #10 picks; the odds that he'll be better than whoever the Giants draft is very high.
...the odds that he'll be more ~expensive~ than whoever the Giants draft is even higher, of course.
So, Giants fans, start watching Jordan Tyson highlights, I guess?
#10 pick for Dexter Lawrence is a pretty dang good haul, though losing a player like that is never fun.
Forget games -- he only played four ~snaps~
But then again, he was picked at the end of the first round, without the same level of expectations of an Okudah or a Ruggs.
I had a very difficult time trying to figure out the worst busts of the 2020 draft. Henry Ruggs and Damon Arnette for Vegas, Isaiah Wilson in Tennessee, a terrible corner class with Jeff Okudah, CJ Henderson and Noah Igbinoghene...

Hindsight is 20/20.
Our annual Draft Six Years Later piece is up, with the infamous COVID draft. Fantastic if you needed a quarterback or wide receiver!
...Other positions may also exist.

One of our favorite annual pieces, going back to the old site... @brykno.bsky.social looks at the 2020 draft, six years later. Were draft graders correct? Which players busted unexpectedly, and where were there surprise stars?

One of the mid-round guys I'm really excited for in this draft is Anthony Hill. Weapon in coverage, excellent speed, and can clobber guys in the run game.
I don't think he's a first-rounder or anything, but he's the third or fourth best LB in this draft.

Yeah, seconding this -- it's a thing that some people did.
A tweet from immediately after the 2022 draft, stating "Brock Purdy's Mr. Irrelevant, so there's no sense criticizing it too much, but I'm not sure Purdy has much upside."
Can't wait for two more years when I can ratio this idiot.

A good thing to remember as the Instant Takes come off after this year's draft.
Working on the 2020 Draft, Six Years Later piece, and reading some of the Takes of the Time.
Yeah, what was Howie Roseman thinking, taking a backup quarterback in the second round.
Bo Nix is the back-to-back failed completions leader, but he continues to show consistent signs of improvement!
The same can't be said for Dillon Gabriel or Aaron Rodgers, two quarterbacks who have never been put in the same sentence before.

New at @ftnfantasy.com from @brykno.bsky.social: an analysis of failed completions numbers from 2025. Bo Nix led the league in dump-offs, but with fewer than his rookie season and fewer in Wk 10-18 than in Wk 1-9.
Also, why can't Browns QBs throw downfield?

If it's unlikely to work, pick the guy who's unlikely to work *while backflipping through a hoop that's on fire*
Rather than trying to hope that Drew Allar or Carson Beck becomes a thing, I think I'd rather take a sixth- or seventh-round flier on Taylen Green and see if I couldn't teach him to play quarterback.

I will say this about the Falcons: They were the worst dressed team in the league, and now they are generic.
That is an improvement. It is also a wasted opportunity.
Your answers today -- truly exciting draft picks from 1-32.
A good group to keep in mind when you're doing your mocks or reading draft grades.
Happy April Fools Day.
How many of these sure-fire, franchise-saving NFL draft picks can you remember?
(Yes, I'm aware it's labeled "Snap-Weighted Age"; we'll get that fixed)
This week on FTN, we're flipping things to the defensive side of the ball for Snap Weighted Size!
Smaller defenses were better last year, in large part because if you have a nickel DB who can stay out there all the time, you're in really good shape.

So, it turns out allowing a 21-0 run is BAD for your chances in the tournament. Good to know, thanks for checking on that, Tennessee.
~what are they hiding~
Interrupting my vacation to bring you the 2026 Playmaker Scores for draft wide receivers. A fine class at the top, thinner in the middle. www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/...
I always stupidly fall in love with some random mid-round draft prospect at this time of year, and it's tackle Drew Shelton right now. Mobility and athleticism for days.
Just in case there's, like, an outside-zone heavy team that's looking for a future prospect to play left tackle, San Francisco...
There just isn't a convenient time for both the locals and broadcast when you're trying to play a game in Australia.
Almost like the logistics aren't worth the squeeze...
