Amiga 500 Longplay [153] North & South YouTube video by World of Longplays

I didn't know about these, but I remember playing this video game a long time ago which must have been inspired by them.

They could have been really devious and had "whiskey" as an incorrect option.

Old and new clubs showing old paper and foil wrapper on top with new plastic wrapper below.

Did anyone else make a picture frame or book with their club wrappers? Or carefully put the foil back into the paper to look like it had not been opened? Is that now consigned to history with these new plastic wrappers?

"Attract donors who are keen to back a winner" leapt out at me as a glaring euphemism for undemocratically buying influence.

Watching the rugby with my wife. I can join her in cheering for Scotland safe in the knowledge that she'll be cheering for England against France. Scottish and English wins today will make Scotland tournament winners.

Spotting this on the footpath while out with the dog has made my day.

Most electric showers have a cord switch. I always turn the shower to the setting I want then step out to pull the cord, only getting in when it's up to temperature.

Couldn't read the article. No way I'm subscribing to that rag. Had a quick swatch of the comments though. Had to laugh at this one.

Repton 3 was easy enough. It was just one level at a time, similar to the first one but with more features and a level creator. Repton 2 was the tough one. One long game with a restart necessary for any mistakes. I used a replay tape-to-disk device that saved memory state to complete that one.

It then switched to a menu offering "Chuckie Egg", "Dare Devil Denis" and two other games.
The only comeback was that Mr. P said to my younger brother during class "You're brother's a bit cheeky, Ward."

A laser came from the UFO, the "JP" ship turn into an explosion and vanished. The alien disappeared and the UFO rose to the top of the screen and beyond.

We have computers on our planet, and software written for a Vortex 5000 will not run on a Bambleweeny brain. It is the same on Earth where software for a ZX Specturm will not run on a BBC Micro. As punishment for your error we will maroon you on earth by destroying your ship.

A large speech bubble was drawn and a message scrolled along the screen from the alien, something like the following.
"I am an envoy from the planet Sartor and we have heard you have been a silly boy.

He booted up the disk and watched my program run its course.
A small space craft with the initials "JP" sat in the corner of the screen. A UFO scrolled down from the top and an alien with long antennae appeared next to it.

I agreed, took the cassette and floppy disk home and got to work.
On the last day of my final year at high school I delivered the cassette, floppy disk and got him to sign my leavers sheet. I claimed I did not have time to demonstrate there and then and made my excuses.

Some of the other more nerdy pupils had already said it could not run on a BBC but he was insistent on trying. He knew I had a BBC with floppy disk drive, so asked if I could transfer the ZX spectrum software on cassette to a floppy disk that would run on a BBC Micro.

One day he approached me to ask a favour. The science department had a BBC Micro computer and he wanted to try out some science software that he had acquired. It was on cassette and stated that it was for the ZX Spectrum.

Mr. Phillips was an odd man. If I were being kind I would say 'eccentric'. Certainly his teaching method was far less engaging than the physics teacher at the school I was at previously. He delighted in claiming to be an alien, a Sartorian if I remember correctly.

Origin stories appear to be a thing today, and @2-wheeled-wolf.bsky.social reminded me of our old Physics teacher. So I thought I'd share my story of him.
