Is a Derridean Critique of Generative AI Possible?Writing Machines and Logocentrism without Subject - The OLR Supplement Finally, a critique of AI that deconstructs the humanist subject on which most existing critiques rely

Finally! A critique of AI that deconstructs the humanist subject. My thanks to Víctor Betriu Yáñez: olrsupplement.com/2026/01/15/i...

more parallels in derrida's "transcendental pathology", althusser's spinoza as diagnosing cases, or derrida's use of Hyppolite's "subjectless transcendental field" and Trần Đức Thảo's "dialectic of real movement"; a lot of this certainly comes from shared reading of Canguilhem, Foucault, Freud/Lacan

derrida's dialectics of protention/retention, essence as the "infinitely open common place for everything we can *encounter*" (!) and the eidos as finite norm, pairs with macherey's "materialist dialectic without the negation of the negative" and "effective presence of the infinite in the finite"

cool, ty for answering, love your work and blog; I've been reading derrida's early phenomenology work and it's really interesting how his deconstruction of the transcendental lines up in a lot of ways with macherey's spinoza, I'm gonna have to hit "hegel or spinoza" again lol

there's so many interesting parallels between derrida's husserl and althusser/macherey's work and spinoza; the use of forgetfulness and the parallel of "clinical sense" and "gaze whose object must always be able to be a theorem" here sticks out to me

hey @jasonread.bsky.social sorry for random ping, but do you know if anyone has compared your notion of the "double shift" to derrida's double session/reading? Been reading on the althusser/derrida relation like Jason Smith, Roberto Mozzachiodi, & David Maruzzella, thought it could be interesting

The idea that communists you find annoying online are inhibiting a successful proletarian revolution in the United States in any significant way is just completely absurd

every once in a while I remember I have a bluesky and use it say the debate between Althusser, Poulantzas, and Balibar is much more interesting and relevant than the Miliband one everyone harps on

this is a recurrent theme if you look at the rise and fall of broad left parties like podemos or syriza or smaller municipal experiments; if we gamble without thought on taking responsibility for the extremely repressive and politicized state, then we undermine any long-term goal of socialism

which means we have to reckon with the principle of selection/specialization in state and party, and a state with a workers party elected in coalition or executive under rule-of-law constitutional vetoes isn't a "neutral" advance, but can be disadvantageous in the long run without rupture

I've seen fair critiques that Balibar is essentialist in "On the DoTP" (boils it down to two classes, which works polemically but betrays his work on MoPs), but frankly he's right that the "material condensation" is only decisive when a class holds the "general social force of compulsion" per marx

Poulantzas had things more conceptually in order but Althusser (and Balibar, mostly, depending on how you take his later works) has been vindicated 100 times over in insisting on demarcating between the capitalist state and any working class administration when thinking through the limits of office

MUG’s Vision of Democracy — Marxist Unity Group Why does MUG love debate so much? What is protagonism? Who counts as part of the proletariat? Who is the vanguard of the proletariat?

next, we have @cliffconnolly.bsky.social with a great primer on MUG’s vision of democracy “addressed to the reader who holds these questions in their heart but is disinclined to spelunking the depths of a 600-page textbook to find the answers.” www.marxistunity.com/light-and-ai...

starting a thread of writing that drops from MUG, starting with @dreadfulposts.bsky.social going into depth about our view of electoral politics in the US

I'm not like the biggest kautsky guy (he had some early hits) but reading history about him and the 2nd international reveals a lot of the foundations of "western marxism" were... kinda bullshit and self-important?
