The Buffalo show us that we are a part of the Earth, not separate from it, and the work Tribal nations have been doing since time immemorial is essential to the future we all share.

April is Earth Month. 🌻 It's a time to look at our wonderful planet and build a better relationship with our animal and plant relatives.
Pick up an extra piece of litter, join in a community clean-up day, or make a donation to your favorite conservation organization.
This winter, we've been focusing on youth. Building youth confidence with fishing, crafting, hunting, and meat processing is a part of what we do – what Buffalo bring with them.
Here are a couple of snapshots from the last couple of months.

We are pleased to announce that we've hired Jeremy Molt (Kenienkehaka Nation) as our Education and Culture Coordinator. He has a passion for teaching traditional values and self-determination to Tribal youth.
“Our obligations and our loyalty have to be to the earth, and they have to be to our sense of community and to our people and our relations.”
~ John Trudell
Buffalo are excellent at moving through large drifts. Thick winter coats with fine undercoats that wick away water help keep them dry, and their large humps act like a roof on a well-insulated house.

Happy Autumnal Equinox! It's the first day of fall 🍂⛅🍁
In the Shoshone language, the word for fall is yepani and in Arapaho it's tooyouni'.
Here are some Buffalo photos from this morning.
The Buffalo are not the only animals at WRTBI. These are some of the candid shots from our field cams capturing pictures of deer, moose, and cranes.
The rut here at Buffalo Camp is finally winding down. For about two weeks the male Buffalo have been competing against each other for mates. Often males won't eat and all they do is fight.🥊💥🥇

In the warm weather of summer Buffalo eat mostly grasses, but in a pinch they are known to eat mosses, lichen, bark, and some wildflowers. 💐
Thank you for supporting us here at the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative.
