I've been told that recovery time should be 4-6 months, which takes me to August/September. Jamie has a local gig May 3rd, which I will be going to, I guess I'll be on both crutches as being in a crowd rather worries me.
A potential 6 months recovery is depressing.
It's shit.

My problem is I am impatient.
I can just about get around the house with one crutch, but outside I defiantly need two. A feel of vulnerability as I know that a fall could cause me big problems. I'm fed up of these bloody crutches, but they're with me for the foreseeable future.
Very nice!
Jamie with the band "Hipster and the Hot Hot Horns" at Goodwood last night
Jame at the Goodwood Members Meet last night, complete with knee brace and crutches. He had a great time!
Yep, I've paid NI for 40 years, now getting what I paid in for! God knows what sort of bill I'd get in the US.
2 hips, femur rebuild, 2 general anaesthetics, 1 spinal, numerous blood tests, 12 days accommodation, a bucket of drugs, multiple x-rays and scans, probably more to come.
I'd be destitute
Jamie is currently travelling from Leeds, via Manchester, where he should be picked up to drive down to Goodwood Racing Circuit, where the band is performing at the annual Members Meet. To make it more of an epic he is on crutches after dislocating his knee a few days ago.
Time flies, 2015, 2026
It will be possible, but my knowledge of electronics is akin to my ability to speak Welsh!
Also known as a 'Wigan Kebab'. 😉
The pain I was in was simply unbearable, but these things are weird, a friend of a climbing mate of mine fell off a crag and 'hurt' his leg, walked three miles to the station and caught the train home, in hospital the next day they confirmed he'd broken his femur. Crazy!!!
Is it possible to link them directly to the point motor, so when you activate the points the signal changes?
Just thinking aloud here...
That looks great, however my wallet may flinch, well, you'd have to go all in and have every signal a proper working one 😂
How on earth did that go undetected?
I had my RH hip replaced, then two days later was back in theatre for 5.5 hrs to rebuild my femur that had suffered a spiral fracture during the hip op, nobody noticed that. Lots of screws, wire, pins and a plate to hold it all together, and a bit of a scar to show for it.
Blimey, that's not good.
I think I'm just beginning to realise this will be a long haul. 4 wks after my fist hip op I was on no painkillers and happily getting around on one crutch. This is obviously quite different.
Thank you for the support X
I had hoped that being prescribed Morphine alongside my other medications would make a much bigger dent in the pain than it does, a bit disappointing really, it has the effect of making me more sleepy though.
Hi Mushen, I’m getting by, still struggling on, and despite even more painkillers the pain is always upfront, but this is how it’s going to be for a while now! Yep my heating is on, a lot more than I’d like. 🫣
Beans is looking as gorgeous as always!
Good morning to you both, raining here☹️
Upcoming gig with the NSO for Jamie.
Saturday 9th May
Kings Hall, Ilkley
Jamie setting up in Wakefield with ‘The Big Easy’, Sax and clarinet tonight.
I’m looking forward to going to bed tonight!
Saw my GP today, a good meeting and it looks like he will be pushing to get me some help. Also reviewed my meds and has added Morphine, slow release, one in the morning and one before bed. Hopefully that will help with the pain.
Three weeks post op(s)
Thigh is quite swollen but otherwise things look ok.
Still painful!
Don't hold your breath...
Cheers Alan, yes, things have been a bit rough recently, and my concentration level can be measured in seconds.
I can definitely see the attraction of 16mm!!!
At this stage after my 1st hip op I was taking a couple of Paracetamol before bed, now I'm maxing out Codeine+Paracetamol, it's not enough. The spiral fracture, and subsequent rebuild of the femur is where my problem lies. Waking every couple of hours through the night is exhausting on every level.
I have to keep telling myself that I’m only 3wks into a recovery that I’ve been told will take 4-6 months. I don’t know what an acceptable level of pain should be. Pain is there to stop you doing more damage to yourself, so I don’t want to cover it up completely. But it’s not fun
I'm fine around the house, I've not really been out as I am aware a slip or trip could be catastrophic at this early stage of my recovery. I'm taking things slowly.
