The task of de-Trumpification of science and public health will take a generation and a "Marshall Plan" to rebuild. Without a bold, expansive vision to guide us, there is no coming back. Small-bore, poll-tested versions of the future will not help us. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

And BOOM, now I have tears in my eyes for no discernible reason. I miss my dad. It's been two months.
This is what everyone talks about: grief being a glitter bomb that just goes off, huh.

How tragic that you could publish, then re-publish, then re-publish, then re-publish, then re-publish a cartoon like this over and over again...
Today I turn 89. I’ve seen this country at its best and its worst, and I know how much community matters. For my birthday, I’m asking you to stand with PFLAG and support the work that’s helped so many in the LGBTQ+ community, including me. give.pflag.org/page/95493/d...
Victims first.
In a nutshell. 😊
I was catching up on my regular dose of non-anglosphere news on NHK World (Japan) only to find the broadcast interrupted by a live tsunami warning. Kinda terrifying!
We'll turn them over in two weeks.
Breaking WaPo:
The Trump Justice Department is now demanding all ballots from the 2024 election in the Detroit area — a highly unusual move that comes shortly after prosecutors seized 2020 ballots in Georgia and obtained 2020 election records in Arizona.
...Kindle tells me $7.42, though, which is still a bargain.
I was just thinking I need to reread this! And I gave away my paper copy.

My father survived a year with pancreatic cancer but it was a year of terrible suffering. This is very encouraging news.

Or hot water.
But I'd say the worst thing about J bathrooms is that many of them are, quite literally, smaller than airplane toilets. Anyone over six feet (185cm) or broad of beam or who has balance problems or can't climb a flight of stairs can be quite stuck without a reachable toilet.
Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial - NBC News
Don’t tell the MAGAt’s that a mRNA vaccine is proving to be very EFFECTIVE in preventing PANCREATIC CANCER. I wonder if they’ll scream about this mRNA VACCINE? 💉 mRNA TECHNOLOGY is GROUNDBREAKING SCIENCE in action
I complain about Japan a lot, then I am always surprised when I go to Europe how bad it still is over there.
But here, heaven help you if you need a toilet anywhere besides a train station (which have improved dramatically in the last decade).
I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
Gov. Bill Lee signed a resolution defining family as a man, a woman, and their children, a move critics say targets LGBTQ+ households.
I am a gay dad and this is FUCKED UP
Breaking: HHS’s ban on gender-affirming care is struck down. Rarely have I read a ruling this sharply worded.
“This case is one of a long list of examples of how a leader’s wanton disregard for the rule of law causes very real harm to very real people.”

This report came out today by minority staff of the House science committee on how three NASA missions were aborted due to NASA illegally following the FY26 president's budget request instead of congressionally approved budget. Very important reading. 🔭🧪 democrats-science.house.gov/staff-report...

7,600 yen.
...and we think there was a gaikokujin tax applied. We saw only the English menu, but online photos of the Japanese menu show 5,600.
We walked out. I'm dubious about the place end to end.
Finally hands us the menu...
Got a guess what supposedly top tier halal wagyu ramen costs?
In other news, @andijapan.bsky.social and I, always on the hunt for good ramen, wandered into a halal wagyu place that has ramen, burgers and a steak sandwich. Waitress seats us, starts explaining that owners are fifth generation, top five percent wagyu, yadda yadda.
She mentioned that you are friends! I learned a ton from her talk. Looking forward to talking to her more.
