The screening of the movie "Picture a Scientist" in our SFB last week sparked a lively discussion that connected the stories on screen to today’s academic realities, especially the persistent leaky pipeline.
Thanks to our hosts, the panelists, and everyone who contributed to the thoughtful exchange!
Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science! 🧪 Don't forget to send in your nominations for the FEBS | EMBO #WomenInScience Award.

How do you turn cryo-EM data into a 3D structure?
A recent workshop by our Cryo-EM Facility answered this question by demonstrating the full workflow from raw data to a 3D map using CryoSPARC.
Thanks to Stefan Steimle (Cryo-EM Facility) and Florian Schneider (SFB 1381) for hosting!
Last week, our early career researchers gathered in Heidelberg for their annual retreat!
The agenda included inspiring lectures, flash talks, plenty of discussions and a visit to the Christmas market.
Overall, the retreat strengthened the scientific and social connections within the SFB 1381!
Because computational structure prediction plays a key role in our SFB’s work, it was fantastic to have our early career researchers join the workshop “Practical Approaches to Protein Structure Prediction: AlphaFold and More.”
A big thank-you to Florian Schneider (project A04) for hosting!
Our SFB 1381 student Mohd Areeb successfully defended his doctoral thesis at the University of Freiburg last week!
Congratulations 🎉 Areeb and all the best for your future!
