I’ve periodically return to Copper Blue by Sugar as I did this morning. Each time I do I am reminded that it plays like a greatest hits set. A classic by any definition.

Fewer things scream Sunday in spring than @stuartmaconie.bsky.social and Freakzone as essential as birdsong

First Sunday dinner prep without Iggy on the wireless. Jarvis is great. All good.

I thought McCartney: The Hunt for the Lost Bass was fascinating. As per for this sort of documentary the lives of the less famous was the crux of it all.

Another insightful glimpse at the music business from a different perspective. This one hurts a bit. Wonderful book beautifully told. @debseyonbass.bsky.social

Exam invigilation continues… two band t shirt/ hoodies this time - Pink Floyd t shirt and Nirvana hoodie

Band t shirts are scarce this period of invigilation but a student had a Slayer hoodie and when they took this off it there was a Slipknot t shirt.

I didn’t mind Churchill being in the fiver and have no real feelings about him being removed. I still miss Dickens unless he’s on a note I never have. However there’s a bit of me that thinks an animal on the note is a bit more British.

‘A lot of late 70s bands wore grey. But we were determined to have fun’: the return of the mega-influential Swell Maps after 46 years Championed by the BBC’s John Peel and signed to Rough Trade, the band were punk when that meant DIY, psychedelia and prog as well as screaming chords. What’s more, they loved Pink Floyd …

Excellent piece on the new Swell Maps LP 'C21' and the history of the band in @theguardian.com. Thanks to @michaelhann.bsky.social for the enthusiastic words and Sarah Lee for the surprisingly flattering photography ...

It’s a great book. I’ve reread bits already! It’s an interesting slant on punk, post punk, riot grrl and grunge. Thank you

I can now join in the love for Small Prophets, all six episodes blend into a delightful piece of TV. Not sure I want a sequel as this is fairly perfect.

I read it just after my mother’s stroke. The final section really resonated with me. This is an epic novel and made me fall in love with fiction all over again.
