The SECURE Data Act is not a serious effort at tackling the urgent privacy crisis facing this country. It is weaker than many existing state laws (the very state laws that it would wipe off the books with its broad preemption provision). Some examples:

Favorite scene in All The President’s Men: Woodward & Bernstein attend White House Correspondents Dinner, hobnob with Nixon Administration officials, have such a swell time that they back off Watergate investigation so they don’t lose their access.
NEW: @nathaliemarechal.net and I wrote for the @bostonglobe.com about the new push for "age verification" (aka mandatory online ID checks) in Massachusetts and how it will hurt kids and help Trump.
Send this to people you know in MA and tell them to send it to their state senators & the governor!
The Media Matters v. FTC oral argument is going...badly for the government.
When a judge is like...that seems like a terrible position to take.

Big opinion out of the Mass. SJC this morning on whether Section 230 bars the AGO's claims of unfair trade practices against Meta for addictive design. "We conclude that it does not." www.mass.gov/doc/commonwe...
I see that Josh has not yet fielded a request to play undisputed artist of the month, Angine de Poitrine… 🤔
my linkedin feed is 50% scientists freaking out about just how super the coming El Nino is and 50% corporate law professors posting about how they use AI to do their jobs for them
Boston Globe mock front page from April 9, 2016. Date says April 9, 2017, with giant headline “DEPORTATIONS TO BEGIN” and “Markets sink as trade war looms.”
Ten years ago today, in April 2016, the Boston Globe printed a satirical front page imagining a future Trump administration. The page was called "alarmist," "hyperbolic," "dystopian." But we’ve put up with so much since then it now looks like . . . a slow Thursday?
BAD BILL ALERT
🚨🚨🚨 MASSACHUSETTS!!!! RED ALERT!!! 🚨🚨🚨
The Massachusetts House is going to vote TODAY on a dangerous and misguided bill to ban minors from social media that would force everyone to upload their government ID in order to post online or access online resources.

It's very cool! Thanks for doing this
Fun feature here, you can filter based on author of the regulatory comment. Here'e a breakout visual of the 21,000 words that my students and I contributed to the 2015 cycle.
NEW REPORT on the 1201(a)(1) process!
(you may know it as the cell phone/mcflurry jailbreaking process)
Every 3 years almost 100 nonprofits & clinics submit >1000 pages of comments asking for an exemption to a law that is almost never used.
For what?

invoke the 25th and start impeachment anyway
In Korea, when the president declared martial law after midnight and erected barricades in Seoul, congressional reps from all parties ran into the streets, yanked ak47s from the army at the barricades, broke down the locked door to Congress, repealed the martial law order, and arrested the president
if Trump nukes Iran it will be because no one powerful in america has ever been seriously punished for anything
“A whole civilization will die tonight” is the most vile thing a US president has ever said, certainly during the post-1945 era when they’ve had the power to kill civilizations with the dropping of a bomb. I’m staring into the darkness. May this not be one of the most fateful days in human history.
The civilization that would die if such threats were carried out is our own.
Correct and straightforward @sulliview.bsky.social, as always.

These are orders given "under a black flag," and US military personnel should refuse to carry them out.
Standing up for freedom by secretly believing it in buried deep in my heart of hearts as I am clapping like a fucking seal for totalitarianism at the big totalitarianism party
It drove me *crazy* at the end of my time teaching how much Westlaw and Lexis were straight-up lying to schools about their performance, how often those lies were uncritically repeated by colleagues, and how often the views of actual tech law experts were sidelined in the name of baseless AI hype.
I wrote about the Prairieland trial, the first to pilot the White House’s theory that antifa is a vector for terrorism. The case is a dangerous escalation in the admin's war against the left. Yet it also highlights a longer history...

I keep reposting this because it just can't be emphasized enough, especially the last line:
"The fact that [impeachment] is politically impossible is a scandal and a crisis."
It's the amicus deadline in Perkins Coie LLP v. DOJ (the law firm EO appeal that DOJ tried to drop and then changed its mind).
On the DOJ side, there was one amicus brief signed by five conservative orgs. (storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...)
On the side of the law firms we have...
TSN is proud to join over 40 media organizations and press freedom advocates in an amicus brief in support of court decisions against the Trump administration's attempts to censor the press and the legal profession.

Yes! And the way they delivered that line about calling them sweded because they're from Sweden felt like an in-the-moment lie about an existing term, which also adds to that.
I always understood it to be a term invented for the film, Know Your Meme agrees: knowyourmeme.com/memes/sweded...
President Trump’s unconstitutional executive order aiming to punish U.S. law firms over their pro bono clients threatens an independent press.
Read about the amicus brief we signed with over 40 other media organizations and press freedom advocates.
It's true! Six of the opinions discussed are from March 2026, one is from April 2026. Media lawyers have been super busy, which is why media organizations need counsel that the president can't nix by Executive Order!
