Thanks for having me along!
Edward Morello Liberal Democrat, West Dorset To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what assessment he has made of the potential impact of reducing off-peak tariff periods from 12 to seven hours on households reliant on overnight energy use
Does anyone know what changes this recent PQ is referring to?
Could the dawn of energy islands usher in a more sustainable future in 2025? 🏝️
With Belgium leading the way and the UK and other North Sea nations considering energy islands too, could 2025 be the first port of call on the voyage to a clean energy future?

“Community energy is a nice-to-have for leafy middle class villages!” I hear you cry.
Once upon a time maybe, but not today.
Community energy groups do immense work for a just transition. In this blog, I outline the opportunity and how it can be unlocked at scale: www.regen.co.uk/community-en...
Thanks, will check out that device! Lowest I've seen mine modulate to is 600 W, but rarely seems to do it...
I feel like the controller may be where the problem lies. Because Ecodan doesn't do Opentherm the Nest just acts as an on/off, and all the HP can see is the target temp at the main controller, which is in a cupboard next to the unit, and therefore has to be set quite high to make sure it operates
Thanks! It cycles more at higher external temps, less when it is cold (like last night). I guess it is fine if that seems to be the right mode of operation, I just had a sense it might be more efficient with slower, steadier operation (and maybe would heat the thermal mass better?)🤷
Heat pump Q! I have an Ecodan 8.5kW. Flow temp set btw 30-35C. Occasionally pre-heat during night to use low Agile prices. Is there a way I can force it to use lower power and come to target temp more slowly? Appears to be trying to heat rapidly at high power. Have Nest thermostat E. Thanks!
Thanks!
Thanks very much for these pointers Matthew, lots to check out there! And thanks @bensaltmarsh.bsky.social I will drop you a line separately
Thanks for this Ben -- as it happens this is part of background for work I'm doing with Nesta! Would be great to learn more about what evidence/experience NEA might have in this area
Thanks, will check out. I saw a nice looking product from gradient a while ago...
Thanks for that Tina!
Indirectly (so far) yes, thanks
Thank you! Am familiar with their great work but pointers welcome
🙏thanks!

Hello Bluesky! I'm seeking research, evaluation, case studies on heat pumps in social/public housing - with focus on solutions (service/engagement/policy/technical/etc.) to accelerate uptake + improve tenant experience. Is there anything you recommend I look at? Suggestions and shares appreciated!
Ah yes, need to somehow port this over here!

Dear wonks: Is there a catchy term for the thing where instead of using electricity to clean up existing CO2-heavy activities you use it for new energy intensive activities, which may be clean, but where the link to system level decarbonisation is much less clear?
There must be a good one, right?
