We're going to have to start playing, 'Where in the World is @nancyklavin.bsky.social"
She's becoming ubiquitous to reporting in Rhode Island.

In case you missed it, I'm starting my own local news company, one I'm hoping will set a standard for hyperlocal digital startups. I'm thankful for how well received it's been this first week. If you feel the urge to be part of it, here's the link: thelocalinsidernews.com
I wouldn't imagine any local government is creating its own safety net programs. Not on this state's tax bases
Sorry, I was less than clear. You mentioned cuts to Medicaid & education.
If the Feds cut ed aid to locals as a functional "pay for" that's a thing, I just wasn't 100% if locals received some other Medicaid $, aside from the school based services funding through the single state agency.
Thank you for getting to how it was related to tax cuts.
Though I'd typically argue that taxes don't fund federal spending, but I see your point.
Do the locals have Medicaid funding beyond school based services?
Usually when this state's local governments want/need to exceed the cap it's from debt service, an unanticipated expense, or a tax abatement expiring.
That's probably overly narrow.
She plays great to the, "Quiverfull" nature that is a core to the [R] national platform. For the "politics over policy" people in that party (though they exist insubstantial numbers in both parties) she could play well anywhere.
I suspect they don't ask the cutting question because they can easily hide behind the, "not enough votes on the floor" answer.
That said, if the RIGOP wants to be a complainer party rather than a competitive one (which is very RI), not having seats helps.
I'm particularly confused about why this one is a rising star when she's admittedly terrible at the job.
Legislators do oversight & she doesn't know why the state of Zambrano is what it is? That's just being bad at your job.
I do appreciate Ian noting that the Dr. Pedro item was called out by a reporter, not a journalist. I feel like journalists need neutral reportage.
That reporter isn't capable.
I remain convinced that the RIGOP goes nowhere until it can recruit talented, intelligent, truthful candidates.
This is not one & a good opposition party needs it
Or, hear me out, everyone else is weighing it & he's happy to let them talk.
This at least, unlike the gubernatorial & congressional races, may have some appeal. But does it fit his nature?
I assume the potential of his war chest just keeps everyone on their toes about next steps.
Ian asked West how Providence is these days. “[I]t takes a long time to correct after a really corrupt mayor. People still give Buddy credit for a lot of things that I don’t think he deserves credit for. Should I speak of the dead that way?"
Absolutely Mr. West you should & in detail. #Mythbuster.
Glad to see Dan McGowan acknowledge that Triggs isn't a one of Rhode Island's fanciest or the country's best golf courses!
Perhaps when the lease is up ~2032, we can make better financial use of the land for the city & make it a new neighborhood!
Sad that Dan's left us here though...
The spring sale has $40 for a year, equivalent to $3.33 per month.
I'd take the latter if $2 is the per opinion piece cost.
The two thoughts 1) I’m gonna incinerate these people 2) but God Bless ‘em probably shouldn’t appear in the same paragraph, or people will think you’re a typing vegetable.
Actual office footage of the speaker.
See this right here?
That's how you click farm.
Aggrieved old wypipo confident people will listen this time.
The Senate will remain an, "also here," institution until it enforced its institutional authority.
Lots of rhetoric, minimal amounts of substance.
Guys, it's time for no game theory
@donald-glover.bsky.social still ain't no follower.
Feels so early this week.
While he has 2 opponents; he presumably remains without a legitimate challenger.
I do have extra appreciation for the Current as it seems to cover more actual hearings than anyone else.
Stipulated.
That's also why they get the latter call out.
I'd never throw shade at PBN, seems many of the state's best reporters have ties there.
Never considered a business paper when I had J classes, but if I ever revisited a career... that seems like it'd be fun.
But again, @nancyklavin.bsky.social on a story no one else is covering... though PBN will probably include in its morning newsletter.
"Frustration escalated after the corrected W-2s were sent out in envelopes which potentially exposed employees’ Social Security numbers, raising privacy concerns. [And further peaked when those corrected W-2s were discovered to include errors for certain college personnel.]"
